How feasible is it to remove the keel on a GK24 for shipping
purposes?

I removed the keel and shipped the boat to Kenya. The nuts and Locknuts i undid without problem, apart from the leading one, this is glass fibered in at the bow side of the bulkhead and is invisible..When we tried to lift the hull off the keel it was held by this stud. We used an angle grinder between the hull and keel to get it off. I've replaced the stud now and am nearly ready to mount the hull back on the keel.  The boat was towed to Tilbury on a twin axle trailer with the keel on a standard pallett. The mast was mounted on top of the hull.If i was to do it again i would get a ptice for shipment via roll on roll off with its keel on and on a twin axle trailer, and a price with keel off. In hindsight i wish i had done this. Any more info  contact me.

Yeah it would be good to know what condition the studs were in. any idea what the studs are made of ?

I've also got to consider getting my boat shipped / containerized to get it to Hong Kong from Singapore. Worried what I might find if I take the keel off, and how well it would go back on. I know she'll have to be put in a cradle tipped on her side to fit in.

Or she goes deck cargo in a cradle - no idea yet of pricing - but it's a long sail ..... And you can't go by road.

my gk studs are stainless not sure what grade.

as for puting the keel back on its posible and will have no efect on the boat if done right
if you have a rack that can support the keel on wheels to re-alin the boat over it, then lower the boat

you can take advantage of the move for maitenece, and rebed the keel and check for any high spots which often form by rust in the ironkeel
