IRC ratings & GK24 Boat Register

Hi all - is there a concensus on the range of IRC ratings for a masthead / outboard... I'm getting caned by my club who keep giving me handicaps the same as J24's or 36 footers. And does anyone know what happened to the boat list on the old GK24.org site ? Thanks all.

Back in 2006, our masthead GK, Chuckles too rated .844 under IRC. Cert attached...

Giving a GK24 the same rating as a J24 is just nuts!

Thanks Stephen - yeah they take IRC as an indicator for our local handicapping system - and in the last 6 years its taken ages for the numbers between a J and my GK to creep apart ... We race in light winds for 9 months of the year, so it's a struggle ....

We're now doing a regatta where they spilt me from the J's, but put me at the same rating as 32&36 footers. The J's are sailed badly so don't have a chance - but nor do I against boats that have waterline lengths 10 feet longer than mine. In reality it's probably the other boats that are wrong if I consider a J IRC is 0.888 in class legal trim and Chuckles was 0.844 - that feels sort of right...

Anyway - I'll do some more digging & get back to the club or there's going to be one less boat on the line - enthusiasm is depleted ...

The biggest thing to sort your IRC is to get your boat weighed, Minx was down to 0831 from memory and that was an endorsed cert.

There has always been grumbling about GK24 and IRC I think really from the 1/4 ton pedigree
