A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

In either of these topics, you can select the version picker tool at the top to pick a topic that's relevant to your environment. For SQL Server 2008 you can also refer to the KB article: Upgrade to a Different Edition of SQL Server (Setup). For SQL Server 2005, check the following KB article Upgrade to a Different Edition of SQL Server (Setup).

In some cases, you may decide to move from an Enterprise evaluation edition to an Express edition. Since there's no upgrade path available, you can consult the following article on moving your user databases from the evaluation edition to express edition.

Before you attach the data files to SQL Express edition, if these files are currently located in the default data directory for the old instance, you may want to move the database files from their current location to either the new data directory for the new installation or to another location on the server.

If you had already performed the edition upgrade before applying Service Pack 1 for SQL Server 2008, you will be required to go through all the steps mentioned in the Option 2 section to resolve the problem. The service pack will only prevent issues that involve future edition upgrades.

This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, see How to back up and restore the registry in Windows.

cheers, thanks in advance, AllanWhat edition of SQL Server is this? The error messages indicates it was an evaluation version. SSRS still uses databases and the database engine and it could be that is the piece that is the evaluation edition.

I have made progress on this ..
I think I have this working, finally .. ?
I have databases ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB in my SQL*Server 2017 databases list.
I have Chrome showing this page:

I have an issue executing a package via the API at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime. I have 4 SQL servers that can potentially execute my package in 2 clusters. On the passive nodes in each cluster, execution fails - reported error is that SSIS evaluation period has expired. On the active nodes, it works fine. I don't think its to do with the cluster, more that SSIS itself wasn't originally installed on the active nodes. We installed it later. On Friday we uninstalled and reinstalled SSIS on the passive nodes making sure that we using the correct install media but nothing has changed. We also tried failing over and running again with the same results (failed on the now-active nodes)Interestingly I can run the package from SSMS using the Execute Package Utility on the problem nodes. But calling it from the .net API doesn't work. Any ideas? I can't find anything! Code for the API call below...

Check what version of DTEXEC you are using as default (start-run: cmd, dtexec). I had an error a while ago when i had innstalled ServicePacks on one of ther servers. I then had several versions of dtexec.exe innstalled. One was default when executing from cmd.exe and one was default when running from API. How many different "dtexec.exe" files do you find when searching the servers?

Our server hardening process removed the inherited permission for the users group to have read access to this key. Instead of giving an error that it couldn't read this key, it decided it was an evaluation copy and as we'd had it 180 days since install, it had expired.

Initially I installed evaluation copy of enterprise edition of SQL Server 2005, later we purchased the full license for the SQL Server and I did register the SQL Server 2005. Somehow the Managment Studio still says evaluation copy. And now after 180 days I installed the evaluation copy, I can't start up the Management Studio which don't allow me, this is expected since it says evaluation copy before. The SQLS erver still functioning OK.

We also have scheduled maintenance plan nightly to backup the user database and now it failed because it says "Description: Integration Services evaluation period has expired.". Has anyone has any idea how to resolve this so I can backup my database again?

I had a similar issue with SSIS and fixed it by doing the following, am assuming I caused my own problem as during initial setup the install failed on Client Components, the only workaround I could find was to install them from the Eval edition, all other components were installed from the enterprise edition. Look at the following file to positively identify what is evaluation etc.

I was writing a blog post about Troubleshooting BitLocker Management in ConfigMgr 2002 Current Branch and one of the things I was trying to do was install the web portals, but I was seeing errors shown below.

I assumed this was because SSRS was not installed or configured but after checking the lab, I could see it was indeed installed and configured. However when I browsed the URL in Internet Explorer it produced a HTTP Error 503. The Service is unavailable.

To upgrade the evaluation version you'd normally just need to upgrade the edition of SSRS from Evaluation to Production via change/uninstall in Control Panel, however the way this installation was packaged (WIX bundle) meant that it retained the original download link in a bundled file called state.rsm

Keep in mind that unless you want the same problem occurring in 180 days or so, you'll need the key that was used when installing SQL. If this process doesn't pick it up from your installed instance of SQL, you can find that key in the installation media.

To find the product key in your installation media, you should know that the PID is more than likely contained within the DefaultSetup.ini file located under Root\X86 or Root\x64 folder. Open that file with notepad and copy the product key for later use.

Next, in Sql Server Management studio, find the 2 reporting services databases and remove them, if you are doing this in Production, read my NOTE at the top of this section as deleting the two Reporting databases will result in the following: Reporting services will not work (it's broken already...), all your reports will have been lost (you did back them up didn't you ?), schedules, permissions, etc.

After the server has restarted, reinstall SSRS by launching SQLServerReportingServices.exe available for download here for SQL Server 2017 or here for SQL Server 2019. After downloading it, copy it to a safe location outside of the browsers cache, eg: C:\SSRSSource.

Hello, is there a way to do this without deleting the DB's? can we uninstall reporting services and re-install then reconnect to the DB's which are located on a remote SQL always on cluster? Do i need to worry about the encryption key if i do this?

When trying to add any Quest webpart on a 64 bit machine the following error is received :-
Your evaluation period has expired. Please uninstall the software or contact Quest Software ( ) to obtain a valid license.

The license is not a trial or expired version.

1. Click Start Run type Regedit and press enter.
2. Delete the CurrentVersion key at the location if any HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREQuest Software.
3. Try opening the page with the QWP and if it still gives the error then go to step 4.
4. Delete CurrentVersion and SoftLicense at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432node.
5. Go to Start Programs Quest Software Quest WebParts for SharePoint License Manager
6. Apply the license again and then the error goes away.

I only get E0562300:Duplicate symbol "xxx" in "yyy.obj" after evaluation period of the CC-RL expired. The duplicate symbol error reports on variables that I know are not duplicates. Any ideas if this error is in fact due to the evaluation period expiring?

Jobs fail with the error "0xe00081ce - The software trial period has expired", "the evaluation period has expired" or "0xe0009418 - Access to a device was not authorized with this edition of Backup Exec" even though a valid serial number is installed.

Recently I upgraded a Cisco catalyst switch with the IOS version 16.12, following which smart licensing was enabled. The question is what happens if I do not want to activate it and what happens to the switch and its functionality once its expiration period is over ?

The evaluation period applies to the whole device rather than to invidual features or entitlements. When the evaluation period expires for a device, it cannot be reset. After the 90 days time period, these licenses move to the Expired or EVAL EXPIRED state.

I have a custom example based on the "asset_tracker" application of the SDK v1.3.1 and I am trying to open the IDE through Toolchain Manager, but when I select "OPEN IDE" from the "nRF Connect SDK v1.3.1" option I get a message when SEGGER opens stating "The evaluation period for this release has now expired".
It is not possible for me to update the license because removing this message automatically closes SEGGER.
