Hi all, I'd like to introduce myself as I have started making contributions to the project.
I came upon Gitenberg last week as I was about to start my own project with exactly the same goals. The last time I’d checked, several years ago, there wasn’t anything like this. But I figured I might as well just make sure before committing too much time to my own project. I was excited and relieved to see you all creating exactly what I had wanted. :-)
My day job is software engineer doing work about as far away from ebooks as I could be, but in the past I’ve worked on a number of projects related to ebooks across several of my past and present employers.
My main interests in this field are: 1. Preserving all of humanity’s written knowledge in digital form and 2. Presenting it in a way that is faithful to the medium, easy to digest, and aesthetically pleasing.
Regarding the latter, I am playing around and experimenting with better ways of presenting the books. Here is one example:
I’m also working on some javascript to keep track of the last-location-read between reading sessions as long-form text has been neglected by webdevs for far too long. Note, though, that I’m hardly an expert at front-end development so I’m making progress only slowly.
I hope to get to know you all as we work on this noble project.
