I tried out Gitter this morning.  And I find it impressive.  It is a nice github-account based web chatroom with good history search and github integration.  For those of us who are more comfortable with IRC, you can use it via IRC.

Do we want to setup a chat room for GITenberg?  It might make it easier to have informal conversations that leave logs.

Gitter is a really nice way to ask questions or discuss the project,
its not possible to know how much until you try it. Here are some
highlights:

- Scrollback is permanent and there's a search box to quickly grep for
a certain topic
- Its possible to @mention users, which will receive email
notficiations when they are not present
- You can correct spelling mistakes with s/str/repl/
- Markdown is fully supported(code snippets as as easy as in github comments)
- All you need is a github account, which I think everyone has
- There's a IRC interface available: https://irc.gitter.im/

Its like mailing list + IRC + github comment system :)
