Welcome to the
GITenberg project mailing list.
GITenberg is making a git repo for every public domain book.
Why?
Public domain books are transcribed using OCR to take images, and turn them into raw text.
That raw text needs to be edited and formatted to be able to reproduce the original book.
Using git to store versions of books gives us lots of powerful collaboration tools, and an amazing history system to track changes.
Services like GitHub or Gitorious allow us to collaborate over the web on top of git.
