कामं वाचः कतिचिदफलाः सन्तु लोके कवीनां
सन्त्येवान्या मधुरिपुकथासंस्तवात् कामदोग्ध्र्यः ।
वित्तं कामं भवतु विफलं दत्तमश्रोत्रियेभ्यः
पात्रे दत्तैर्भवति हि धनैर्धन्यता भूरिदातुः ॥
kāmaṃ vācaḥ katicidaphalāḥ santu loke kavīnāṃ
santyevānyā madhuripukathāsaṃstavāt kāmadogdhryaḥ |
vittaṃ kāmaṃ bhavatu viphalaṃ dattamaśrotriyebhyaḥ
pātre dattairbhavati hi dhanairdhanyatā bhūridātuḥ ||
May be that some words of the poets are unfruitful, but there are others which, on account of their describing the exploits of Śrī Kṛṣṇa, become veritable wish-granting cows ; granted that wealth given to people not proficient in Scriptures is unfruitful, that given to worthy persons brings blessings to the liberal donors.
