चन्द्रावदातमतयः कविराजहंसाः ॥
kāvyaikapātravilasadguṇadoṣadugdha-
pāthaḥsamūhapṛthaguddharaṇe vidagdhāḥ |
jānanti kartumabhiyuktatayā vibhāgaṃ
candrāvadātamatayaḥ kavirājahaṃsāḥ ||
Just as the Swan Royal is capable of separating milk from water kept mixed in the same pot, so also the great poets, gifted with an intellect clear as the Moon and erudite in the art of distinguishing merits from demerits manifesting themselves in the same poem, know, by constant application, how to distinguish good from bad.
