SURF CITY INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - YEAR ONE
Welcome all filmmakers!!!
We are very excited to announce the release of what will become one of
the best film festivals in the world. For the last few years, we have
traveled to over 30 film festivals nationwide, and came to one
conclusion - We can do it better!
A film festival should be about the hard working filmmakers. There are
a lot of fantastic films out there that won't ever get a theatrical
release. This is the reason film festivals are perfect. SCIFF will
showcase 100 films from around the world in a span of 6 days in the
beautiful city of Huntington Beach, California - 30 minutes south of
Los Angeles. Our categories for the first year will include narrative
features, shorts, documentaries, digital, animation and music videos.
We are going to be very selective in the films we choose for
exhibition. Quality is key with us. Picture and sound quality are
essential! We plan on becoming a top festival that acquisition
executives and film buyers want and need to attend, and great films
will get them there. We would love to play a part in advancing a
filmmakers film and/or career. This is good for us as well.
In addition to the film screenings, we will hold after parties every
night of the festival at nearby clubs and restaurants. There will be a
ribbon-cutting opening gala and closing night awards ceremony. This is
expected to be a big event as it will be televised live on local
channels. We offer awards to the best films of the festival, including
our very own Lifetime Achievement Award, which is voted by the
filmmakers on who they feel is the most influential independent
filmmaker. The nominees for the 1st year are one of the best indie
filmmakers around: John Waters, Quentin Tarantino & David Lynch. These
filmmakers will be notified that they have been nominated and will be
personally invited to the ceremony.
We invite you all to come share our inaugural year with us next July,
as it promises to be an exciting event. The submission deadline for
all films is February 02, 2002. However, you may start submitting your
work as early as August 01, 2001. Because this is our first year, we
highly encourage early submissions. Early submissions mean early
notifications.
