SP install hangs for SQL 7.0

Hello,

I have recently installed SQL 7.0 on Win2k adv. When I attempt to
install the SP, and I set the first option to go against sql login
(sa). it then goes to a screen where it says "validating password,
please wait". It hangs on this screen, not moving forward. I've tried
it with Windows Authentication option and it does same thing. I've
tried installing SP3 and then going down and trying SP1 first, and I
get the same thing.

Any ideas on what could cause this to happen? Thanks in advance.
