Greetings IEEE Members,

These are announcements for the week beginning Monday, October 9,
2000.

Xilinx
---------------------------------------------

Date: Tuesday, October 10th
Time: 11:00 AM
Location: Van Leer, Room C240

David Loftus, Georgia Tech Alumnus, former GTRI employee and longtime
Xilinx, Inc. employee will be on campus to present an overview of Xilinx
and demonstrate the CoolRunner(TM) programmable logic product which can
actually be powered by a grapefruit! Please join us for pizza and
presentation. We will also be raffling off a Spartan (TM) evaluation
board.

Free stuff and pizza will be provided..

Faculty Presentation: Georgia Tech Lorraine and Study Abroad program

Date: Thursday, October 12th
Time: 11:00 AM
Venue: Van Leer, Room C241

Representatives from the Georgia Tech Lorraine and Study Abroad programs
will be presenting on the opportunities for Georgia Tech students to take
courses while visiting different countries. The talks will focus on the
benefits that ECE/CS students gain from the programs through the courses
offered as well as the cultural experience. Students who have participated
in the programs will be present to give their perspectives. If you have
any interest in traveling overseas while earning credit towards your
Georgia Tech degree, this is a meeting that you need to attend.

Presentation: Georgia Tech Lorraine and Study Abroad program

Date: Thursday, October 12th
Time: 3:30 PM
Venue: Van Leer Auditorium

On Thursday, October 12, 2000 at 3:30 PM, the inaugural James R. Carreker
Lecture will be held in the Van Leer Auditorium. The speaker will be
Thomas J. Engibous, Chairman, President and CEO of Texas Instruments,
Inc. Mr. Engibous' topic is "Engineering a Better World with DSP and
Analog Technologies." The lecture will last about one hour with a
reception to follow for attendees.

Resume Database:

A LOT of companies have contacted us asking us if we have a resume
database. We DO indeed have a resume database for IEEE members, but it is
one of our best kept secrets. :(( Please post your resumes to our Resume
database. It is a good way for companies to see your skills!!!

Schlumberger is on campus!

Come to our information session on Oct 11th, Bill Moore Student Success
Center -Theatre - 7:30-9:00pm. Even if you have not sign up for an
interview yet, check out what we have to offer! We still have slots
available, so we can arrange interviews.

The OFS Schlumberger Field Engineer interview to everyone with 2.5 GPA and
above, graduating in Dec 2000 or May 2001 with an engineering, geosciences
or maths / physics degree, either BS or MS.

The software/Hardware engineer position requires Computer Sciences or
Electrical Engineer majors

The product Center engineers positions requires Mechanical, Electrical,
Industrial, Computer Sciences MS or phD

Attendance to the information session on October 11th is considered
essential if you plan to interview with Schlumberger. Please tell your
friends to come if you think they may also be interested in a Field
Engineer positions, or another position with Schlumberger. There is no
limit to the number of engineers we are hiring this year.

We will have pizzas, and we will raffle a Palm Pilot.

Students who may be interested in taking Systems and Controls 4551 (S&C
I) or 4055 (S&C II - capstone design) under Dr. John Dorsey: please be
aware that these classes may be in danger of permanent
cancellation. Efforts are underway to retain both classes on the ECE
class roster for Spring (4551) and Summer (4055) semesters. Please

Hi Folks, GT-IEEE would like to make this a very successful and fulfilling
year for our members. We would like to have members be more involved, meet
other members, meet the officers, etc..

If you have any suggestions to the officers about making this year more
