I can't get tin to work from my cc acct. Every time I start it, no matter
which telnet client I'm using, I'm told that my terminal doesn't have
"clear to end of display (cd)". Tin on ACME works fine. So what's so
fundamentally screwed up with my terminal settings on Felix? I know less
than nothing about how terminal settings work in UNIX shells.

export name[=word] (not the full syntax, btw) creates the environment
variable name if it does not exist, sets its value to word if word is
supplied, and marks it to be exported to newly created environments.

TERM is an environment variable used commonly to hold the "type" of
termional you are using, commonly vt100 or ansi, among others.

to do this every time, do the same thing you would do for any other
command -- put it in your shell's .profile.
