It's a great idea -- I hope it moves forward.

Hi,

To be honest, it was pretty much dead up to now, but it forked in some
very clever ways and I find it encouraging that some people actually
are interested in such a solution. So I am motivated again! :-)

I will be trying to catch up on the forks and re-integrate, with
proper credit, some good ideas back to ghh, and check that everything
still works on more recent versions of git.

One very interesting aspect that I will try to look into is preserving
metadata such as permissions, creation/modification time and
ownership. I have been away from the git scene for a little while, so
if anybody has suggestions on a good, modern, C/Bash/Python way to
preserve those, please advise me.

I also suddenly remember that I ended up trying to make a D-Bus
service out of ghh so that applications could request backups to be
made on specific files/directories, thus removing the need for
"autosave" files... hmmm... is that a goal worth pursuing?

Anyway, if you had to list 3 priorities for ghh, what would they be?
I would be happy to hear from you guys!

Thanks for your interest,

Jean-Francois
