That sounds like either malware, or overzealous anti-malware to me.

Hey,
Didn't know where to post this, so let me know if this is the wrong place!

I've been using git bash on my PC for over a year now and all has been fine, however this week / these past few days, bash has been extremely slow and causing lots of windows processes to crash (explorer.exe, taskmanager) and required a force shutdown and reboot.

I've tried a lot of different things, uninstalling and reinstalling git for windows, github desktop but can't seem to get it working at a reasonable speed. I've just tried uninstalling git for windows again and I get a "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program." which happened yesterday too, so I deleting the folders and reinstalled it, then uninstalled to make sure the error didn't pop up which it didn't and then reinstalled again to confirm. After all that it still didn't fix anything so I'm wondering what could be the issue here, please let me know if there's any possible thing I could show you that might help you help me!

Thanks!

Yeah, Sentinel One falls into this category. It's a malware in itself  (for example: it removes parts of Sysinternals Suite on every update) as it can slow down IO intensive operations significantly.

Bye...

How do you arrive to the conclusion it's Git Bash which forces lots of
Windows processes to crash?

I would say, an explanation that your box got infected by some crypto miner or
whatever pieces of A/V software has gone awry is a way simpler explanation of
the observed symptoms - which are "everything is slow and/or crashes.

The rest of my computer is always fine. And the problems only arise when l I launch anything git related such as;
Github Desktop
Git bash
Vscode running git commands
And again even while git is not working, I can play games go on my browser and everything fine.

I've just got avast one and ran a full scan which can't find any signs of malware / virus, I know sometimes these can not detect some but not sure what else I can do.

If you are correct with what you've said, what should I do? I'm not tech smart with these kind've things so I don't know where to start really.
