`git diff` is ultraslow and/or crashed

Hello!
I'm using Git for Windows 2.7.1.2 (the same problem was in 2.7.0 at least)
From time to time I'm waiting to open 'git diff' about 30-40 seconds, sometimes it crashed with:
 >git diff
      0 [main] less 404 C:\Program Files\Git\usr\bin\less.exe: *** fatal error - add_item ("\??\C:\Program Files\Git", "/", ...) failed, errno 1

This looks a lot like https://github.com/git-for-windows/git/issues/493.
Why not just hop over and fill in any additional information you have
[*1*]?
