I cannot find any instructions on how to install my Pro Power Kit v3 to existing Nicor PRCP2 doorbell. I have a Ring Pro 2 waiting to be be used, but this one has me scratching my head. It just keeps ringing when I connect the power kit to any of the existing terminals.
These instructions do not represent connection to the Nicor PRCP2. There are a total of 8 terminal points on the back of the doorbell unit which also has a built in transformer. 2 of the wires connect to the doorbell button, so I assume those connect to the Ring Doorbell. Where do I land the wires for the power kit? I have called and spent time with a Ring call center person, I have exchanged several emails and now this connection. Still no answer on how to wire this to my doorbell that is on your compatibility list.
Is there a solution to this? I have the same Nicor PRCP 2 doorbell chime. Nicor says they are compatible with Ring doorbells while the Ring customer service says they are not. Totally unsatisfied with the response and help. Is Ring going to solve this thread or leave it hanging
Super easy. Skip the step where you wire the power kit to your Nicor PRCP2 chime. Just wire the ring pro onto the existing doorbell wires. Then after set up of the device in the ring app, under device settings > general settings > doorbell chime type: set to digital.
I installed the pro 2, skipping the power kit step and adjusting the setting as mentioned. Everything works but when you try to communicate through the app to the person at the door the Nicor keeps ringing and ringing until you mute the speaker and volume on the ring app.
Hello, I know this is an old post, but I just got my Pro 2 and have the exact same chime kit. So, for installation, do I just wire my Pro 2 to the existing doorbell wires and use the mechanical option? Is it that easy?
Ring Video Doorbell connects to your home Wi-Fi network and sends real-time notifications to your smart phone or tablet when someone is at your door. Using our free Ring App which is available for Apple, Android, and Windows 10 devices, you can see an HD Video stream of the person at your door and speak to them using two-way audio communication. Ring Doorbell can alert you when someone presses the button on your doorbell or when motion is detected. Ring Doorbells operate on battery power or hooked up to your home doorbell wiring.
If you lose wireless internet connection, Ring Doorbell will not be able to send audio and video data to your smartphones and tablets. However, if you connect Ring Doorbell to your wired doorbell you will still hear your doorbell when a visitor presses the button.
Ring Doorbell is not compatible with a wireless doorbell. We do offer Ring Chime as a companion wireless speaker to alert you when someone is at your door. Please visit www.ring.com/chime for more information.
Ring Doorbells may be connected to low voltage transformers that power home doorbell kits. You can connect Ring in series with a transformer operating between 8V and 24V AC only. Intercom systems and DC transformers are not compatible. If you would like to wire your Ring Doorbell to a compatible low voltage AC transformer without a doorbell kit, you must use a resistor. See this article for information on connecting to a transformer without a doorbell kit: -us/articles/205180710-How-to-connect-Ring-Doorbell-direct-to-low-voltage-transformer-without-a-door-chime
After setting up your Ring Doorbell, you can share access to additional users simply by entering their email address. When multiple users are connected to Ring Doorbell, all users will be notified of any activity via push notifications. For more info, see this question.

Yes, we engineered Ring Doorbell to emit an alert outside of the home. Ring Doorbell may also be compatible with your current hardwired doorbell. We included terminals on the back of the mounting bracket that you may connect your pre-existing doorbell wiring too, allowing Ring Doorbell to strike your pre-existing doorbell within the home. The next time someone presses the button on your Ring Doorbell, it will also sound the doorbell inside your home. We also offer Ring Chime, a Wi-Fi connected chime for your Ring Doorbell.
During setup you are asked to give each Ring Doorbell a unique name. Notifications are delivered with the name of the Doorbell that triggered them, showing you exactly where the activity is occurring.
Not only is this against the rules here, it's frowned upon reddit-wide. Please don't reveal any information that can be used to track someone down in real life. If you recognise the neighbourhood that's posted in a Ring Clip do not reveal this in the comments. Please take extra care in ensuring you keep your own information safe too.
We recommend the Google Nest Doorbell (Wired) because it delivers fewer false alerts than any video doorbell we tested, accurately distinguishes between people, animals, cars, and packages, and includes the option for 24/7 recording.
Smart doorbell cameras are for people who want to be able to screen visitors the way they do phone calls. They allow you to see in real time who is at your door and decide whether you want to answer it or simply ignore it.
Smart doorbell cameras replace an existing doorbell with a hybrid device that bundles together a ringer button, a video camera, a microphone, a speaker, and one or more sensors. In most homes with a powered doorbell, you can simply swap out your old doorbell button for a smart one and use the existing wiring; a few models require a bit more power, while others can also run on rechargeable batteries.
To test smart doorbells, we mount each contender to an outdoor rig that houses up to four doorbells and connect them to a gigabit Verizon Fios network via an indoor Wi-Fi router (approximately 40 feet from the cameras) and our upgrade pick among mesh-networking kits, the Asus ZenWiFi AX (XT8). We used an iPhone 12, a Google Pixel 7 Pro, and an iPad to review the cameras and their companion apps. When issues come up, such as too many or too few alerts, we try to optimize the settings to get the best possible results for each doorbell.
Pro Tip: Ring doorbells lack facial recognition, which is an important feature to have at your front door. Read our Nest Doorbell review to see how facial recognition can keep your home and family that much safer.
A huge positive of the Ring video doorbells is that for the majority of them, we could choose whether we wanted them wireless and powered by batteries, or hardwired into our existing doorbell setup. Now, hardwiring requires a lot more from us installation-wise, so whenever we had the option, which was the case for the original, 2, 3 Plus, and 4, we always chose to make our lives easier and use the built-in batteries, which lasted us anywhere from six to 12 months.
Note: A 16V 10VA transformer sits at the lower end of the power supply spectrum. Aging and wiring conditions could affect its efficiency in powering the Video Doorbell v2 or ringing a mechanical chime. Please check your transformer and wiring before purchasing.
Wyze Video Doorbell v2 is a true upgrade from our original wired doorbell, delivering some of our most requested features in a new, shiny black package. It comes with cloud and local storage (up to 256 GB) for 24/7 continuous recording, 2K resolution with an even larger diagonal FOV of 166.8º, and it now supports your own in-house chime.
Yes, you can still use this doorbell without an in-house chime. Though even without a functioning chime, we highly recommend installing the included Wyze Doorbell Chime Controller to keep your new doorbell running smoothly.
Wyze Video Doorbell v2 provides 12-second video clips when the doorbell is pressed, and if the microSD card is ejected unexpectedly. All other events will generate a snapshot. For full-length event videos, and so much more, subscribe to Cam Plus or Cam Protect.
The agency filed a lawsuit alleging Amazon's Ring doorbell unit violated a portion of the FTC Act that prohibits unfair or deceptive business practices, which Amazon settled by agreeing to pay $5.8 million.
While Ring has claimed its products help keep customers safer with its doorbell security cameras, the FTC alleged that Ring instead compromised customer information by giving third-party contractors access to customer videos, even when it was unnecessary to perform their jobs.
