I recently got a new iphone8 about a week ago and I just noticed the visual voicemail feature is not working. When I go to the voicemail tab all that appears is a blank screen with a button that says "Call Voicemail". If I press the call voicemail button it takes me to the old-style voicemail menu (same as calling *86), where you have to enter your passcode that I haven't done since I had a flip phone about 8 years ago. I am able to access my voicemail box this way and it does contain all my messages. When I receive a new voice message, or delete one, I receive a text message from Verizon with random numbers and characters. I have tried resetting network settings, as well as downloading the latest version of ios (ios 11.3) with no change. It is important to note that I had previously been using an iphone6 with no issues, but when I went to upgrade I tried out a google pixel 2 for about a week and ended up not liking it, thus switching to the new iphone8. Any suggestions? It would be greatly appreciated. I don't receive many voice messages but it is definitely a pain to have to retrieve them the old school way.
Making sure your visual voicemail works is definitely our number one priority, DANZIT59. I am happy that when you dial *86 it is working, but we will get to the bottom of why the visual voicemail is not working.
When you are checking your Visual voicemail inbox, is your Wi-Fi turned off? Are you having issues accessing the internet? Have you tried to reset the network settings on your device? If not, here are the steps.
I'm not sure if you've gotten your visual voicemail to work, but I had the same problem when switching my SIM card back to my Verizon SIM. I came to this thread to find answers which unfortunately none of this worked, so what I did was attempted to change my voicemail password by going to setting> phone>Change Voicemail Password. After putting in the new code it just kept loading and not actually changing it, so I did those steps one last time and it worked! I'm assuming the phone was connecting with Verizon servers and took a minute to load.
I also have this problem. I have been getting new voicemail notification none stop. However, when I go onto my voicemail I have no new messages. This has only started to happen since updating my iPhone.
I have this problem too and it is very annoying! I have tried what you suggested and I wind up with the same - a red 1 showing I have a message and a pop up message. When I call voicemail it tells me I have no messages and then I can't hang up!
These days, most people take the iPhone's visual voicemail for granted, but for years it was one of the strongest selling points for choosing iOS over Android. At one time, only the iPhone let you see a list of incoming messages without listening to them all.
3. If your voicemail hasn't yet been set up or needs to be set up again, tap Set Up. Follow the instructions to create a voicemail password and choose or record a greeting.
Quick tip: If you're dealing with a brand new iPhone, you may have to turn on your voicemail before you can set it up. The same goes if you've previously turned it off. To check, go into your settings and choose Phone. If you see Change Voicemail Password listed on that page, it's on.
One of the most common reasons that voicemail seems to have stopped working is that you set up call forwarding at some time in the past and forgot to turn it off. Your calls are being directed to another phone number, so no calls ring through to the iPhone and record a voicemail message.
Alternatively, you can go to the Keypad tab in the Phone app and dial your phone number manually, by entering all 10 digits. If you do that, you'll probably need to enter your voicemail four-digit pin or passcode.
Deleting your voicemails can also help, especially if your mailbox if full. Keep in mind that you'll have to select every single message in order to bulk delete them. Otherwise, go through each message and tap the delete button, if you prefer to listen to them beforehand.
If you've gotten this far and your voicemail still doesn't work, either turn your iPhone off, wait a minute and then turn it back on again, or close the Phone app and then start the Phone app a second time. If the app was suffering a minor software problem, it might now work.
If your voicemail service appears to be normal but it's still not working on your iPhone, you can reset your phone's network settings. This is a last resort because it will reset all your network settings, including your Wi-Fi networks and their passwords.
If you're not getting notifications of new voicemails, try deleting texts or text threads (there are apps you can use to back them up before deleting them). If your text message box is full, your device may not be able to accept new texts or notifications, including those for voicemail.
If you've just upgraded to a new iPhone or switched carriers, you may wonder why you're not getting voicemails. Voicemail is a feature hosted by the phone carriers, so you have to set up your voicemail to access the messages others leave for you.
Sometimes we have important messages in our voicemail inbox that we simply cannot part with. If you want to permanently save a voicemail message, select it, then tap the Share icon (the square with the arrow pointing up), and choose how to save it. On the same screen, it can also be sent as voice recording to someone else instead of saving.
Visual voicemail is carrier-specific; some carriers support it, some don't. So if you've already set up your voicemail inbox and don't have visual voicemail, chances are your carrier doesn't support it. The next step is to check with your specific carrier to confirm this.
To change your voicemail greeting on iPhone, go to the voicemail tab and tap on Greeting. You'll be able to listen to your current greeting and choose a default or custom greeting. If you choose custom, you'll be prompted to record a greeting.
There aren't many things you can control about your voicemail, since it is a carrier feature, but you can change your password, greeting, and save or delete messages. To change your voicemail password, follow these steps:
To delete your voicemails, you can choose a voicemail by tapping on it and then tapping the Delete icon. To delete several voicemails at once, select Edit, then select the voicemails you want to delete and press Delete.
I recently signed up to Smarty, all ok so far, however, when I receive a voicemail I get a text message from Smarty informing me there is a voicemail and to call the number in the text to listen to the voicemail. That's all well and good but with my previous mobile provider and as Apple have designed it, voicemails should appear in the voicemail tab within the phone app on my iPhone. I used to see the voicemails in a list and could play them from there, fast forward, rewind etc.
HI, thanks for taking time to help answer my question. Are Google Voice, InstaVoice, YouMail, etc. apps/services that can be made to work with Smarty voicemail? I'm not familiar with them. I guess I should have a look online. Thanks again.
Most of us get calls from phone numbers we don't have. We just pick the phone up, silence it and decide to listen to the voicemail later. But now a new update, iOS 17, is going to have "Live Voicemail." It will pop up the words and experts say scammers will pop up too.
You'll likely need to re-program your voicemail box number but to do that, you'll need to contact tech support to get your server number. Once you have that in hand, you can program it as follows:
- Tap the Phone app
When I open the phone app I then find a badge on the Recents icon - but no badge above "Voicemail", even though I left a message. I verified the latter by tapping on this icon and hearing the "you have one unheard message' prompt from the voicemail server.
Check for a new iPhone update and install it if one is available. Or restart your iPhone to see if that helps. Also, check your voicemail box to see if it's full, and delete some messages to free up space.
The most direct way to turn off your iPhone's voicemail is to contact your service provider and request to have your voicemail shut down. Or dial #004# to turn off voicemails. This code won't work with all carriers, but if it works for you, tap *004# to turn voicemail back on.
Using voicemail can be time consuming and inconvenient, however, over a billion voicemails are left every single day around the world. There are times when you are busy or simply cannot answer the phone - this is when voicemail comes in handy. But, if you're looking to turn off your voicemail completely, then check out our other page and our short video tutorial.
While the Phone app can be used to set up voicemail on some iPhones, where you live can change whether this option is possible. Older versions of the iPhone and different service providers might not allow you to set up your voicemail via the phone app. Alternatively, your service provider may also have a section in the settings relating to setting up and managing voicemail. If you search online for "how to set up voicemail for your specific provider" you can usually find information on the ways you can activate your voicemail services.
In some cases, like Australia and New Zealand, to begin setting up your voicemail you will need to call the mailbox number of your service provider. You can find the voicemail numbers of popular Australian carriers below:
When you set up voicemail you may be asked to record your name for your standard greeting. You can then follow the prompts to personalize your greeting, change your notification method and set up a security code.
One way to set up your voicemail is by using a smart voicemail app. Traditional voicemail services can consume large amounts of time, with every message having to be listened to in chronological order, and it taking minutes or even hours to listen to caller details and the contents of each voicemail message.
