Linear guideways provide linear motion by re-circulating rolling elements between a profiled rail and a bearing block. The coefficient of friction on a linear guideway is only 1/50 compared to a traditional slide. With these features, a linear guideway can achieve high precision and greatly enhanced moving accuracy while carrying loads in all directions. Hiwin Corporation offers a variety of linear guideway series, each featuring different options for sizes, loading capacity, accuracy, and more.
The HG series linear guideways are designed with load capacity and rigidity higher than other similar products with circular-arc groove and structure optimization. It features equal load ratings in the radial, reverse radial and lateral directions, and self-aligning to absorb installation-error. Thus, the HG series linear guideways can achieve a long life with high speed, high accuracy and smooth linear motion.
The EG series is a low profile, high load capacity, and high rigidity guideway block. It also features an equal load rating in all four directions and self-aligning capability to absorb installation-error, allowing for higher accuracies. Additionally, the lower assembly height and the shorter length make the EG series more suitable for high-speed, automation machines and applications where space is limited.
The CG series linear guideways have moment load capacities up to 50% higher than standard HG Assemblies. The O-Type (back-to-back) bearing configuration and an integrated recirculation unit optimize bearing circulation greatly improving moment load capacities and promoting smooth motion. An optional stainless steel cover strip increases dust protection and promotes smooth block transition.
The RG series features a roller as the rolling element instead of steel balls. The RG series is designed with a 45-degree angle of contact. Elastic deformation of the linear contact surface, during loading, is greatly reduced thereby offering greater rigidity and higher load capacities in all 4 load directions. The RG series linear guideway offers high performance for high-precision manufacturing and can achieve a longer service life than traditional ball bearing linear guideways.
The WE series features equal load ratings in the radial, reverse radial and the lateral direction with contact points at 45 degrees. This along with the wide rail, allows the guideway to be rated for high loads, moments and rigidity. By design, it has a self-aligning capability that can absorb most installation errors and can meet high accuracy standards. The ability to use a single rail and to have the low profile with a low center of gravity is ideal where space is limited and/or high moments are required.
The MG series is a miniature linear guideway that comes in a compact size with a Gothic arch contact design that offers high stiffness and high rigidity against moment loads in all directions. The MG series also offers anti-corrosion protection which all material is in a special grade of stainless steel for compatibility in various working environments. The MG series is available in a narrow block type (MGN) and also with an enlarged width (MGW).
The SE is a metal end cap option for the linear guideway that increases temperature resistance. This option enables service temperatures up to 150C and instance temperatures up to 200C. For situations where a standard block is unable to operate due to the high working temperatures, the SE option is available for use.
Dust proof attachments prevent material debris and dust particles from entering the block and causing damage to grooved surfaces. Dustproof options are recommended when a guideway is exposed to a high debris environment to ensure extended service life.
The RC reinforced cap is constructed of an oil and abrasion resistant synthetic resin and elastic rubber O-ring. The cap provides high performance dust protection and is resistant to being unseated by vibration or shock.
Hiwin HG Series linear guideways are designed with load capacity and rigidity higher than other similar products with circular-arc groove and structure optimization. It features 4-way equal load capacity in the radial, reverse radial and lateral directions and are self-aligning to absorb installation-error. HG series linear guideways achieve a long life with high speed, high accuracy, and smooth linear motion.

Depends on how you define "worth". Speaking personally when funds are available I would always say go for a quality brand (misumi, hiwin) for linear rails. Granted they're not magic solutions (maintenance is still required) but it's just one less thing to have to worry about. I've had more bad experiences with non-brand rails than good ones, that issue I had the other week with the "tick tick tick" during z-homing I pretty much narrowed down to shonky (non-brand) rails (I clearly forgot I hadn't fitted HiWIN).
Hiwin is going to be flawless for sure but still needs the right lube. I like silicone bearing oil for my rails: the kind that's marketed for skateboard wheel bearings and if you want a super thin oil, get fishing reel silicone oil.
Have always been using the Mobil grease but getting it to Ozzie is becoming very expensive. Want to give the silicone oil @Simon2.4 has mentioned as an alternative. Also read on the RatRig forums that 3in1 oil is recommended. They strongly advise against use of lubricants containing additives such as PTFE, Molybdenum, graphite and Boron Nitrate. Apparently they interfere with the tolerances of the rails - not that I understand this.
This M5 screw has the HIWIN-specified thread pitch and screw length to mount HIWINHGR-20-R interchangeable linear guide rail. This M5 Mounting Screw for HIWIN HGR-20-R Linear Guide Rail is the perfect match for mounting the HIWIN HG Series 20 mm Size Rail Standard Lengths.
The super heavy duty HIWIN linear guides of the HG/EG series, with four ball bearing paths, are designed for loads and rigidty 30% higher than with similar products. This is thanks to optimization of the running arc and its construction. The system also owes its light running to the optimal design of the recirculation system. The retainers prevent the ball bearings from falling out, in particular when the block is pulled off the rail during installation.
Hi. The HIWIN spec rail will fit standard M5 screws. If you are using non standard screws with wide heads, or pan heads that are a bit larger than a standard round heads, then it may not fit. Make sure to source screws that have standard round heads, or socket heads for fastening the 20mm HIWIN spec rails.

BUILDING ONE OF YOUR GREENBULL 6X LONG AND 2.2 KILOWATT SPINDLE DOES NOT FIT. SEEMS LEAD SCREW YOU SENT WITH KIT IS SHORT 42" LOOKS LIKE IT NEEDS TO BE 5 OR 6 INCH LONGER. THIS CORRECT? WHAT THE NEEDED LENGTH FOR UNIT?
BYCNC Response:
Please send a photo of the bolts and assembly so we can determine the problem. Thanks.
User Response:
The holes on the Dremel holder are 0.442" and the bolt heads are 0.483". Picture will be sent. In the picture note that the left bolt has been ground down.

I JUST RECEIVED MY WHITE ANT AND STARTED TO DO SOME BASIC ASSEMBLY. NOTICE THAT THE 1/4 X 20 BOLTS WITH PHILLIPS HEAD NOT FIT IN NOTCHES CUT FOR THEM - INSTANCE, ON DREMEL MOUNT. AM SUPPOSED BUY DIFFERENT HEADS, GRIND ALL DOWN, OR ROUTE OUT BIGGER NOTCHES. 3" BARELY Z-AXIS MOTOR
Sure, our blueChick and blackToe CNC Routers are considered relatively small machines at 1'x3' and 2'x4' respectively. They both use NEMA 23/24 motors. We recommend connecting the machines to either Mach3 or LinuxCNC and come with the necessary interface for either control software. You will need a computer for the control software and if you desire LinuxCNC, you will need a parallel port. Mach3 will accept either parallel port, or USB interface.

Building one of your greenBull 6X Long and 2.2 kilowatt spindle does not fit. Seems lead screw you sent with kit is short 42" looks like it needs to be 5 or 6 inch longer. Is this correct? What is the needed length of lead screw for this unit?
Here is how to connect your router to the parallel breakout board through the on-board relay. You will need a spare extension cord. You will need to remove a portion of the outer jacket of the extension cord to expose the white, black and green wires (white = neutral, black = live and green = ground), understanding that the neutral and live create the completed circuit.
See this image of a similar connection. The terminal has the same connections.
-pressure-controller-relay-terminals-700.JPG
Image of the relay terminal:
The live/black wire would be cut and one end of the cut would be secured into the P terminal and the other cut end would be secured into the S terminal. The live and ground wire would be uncut and travel from the plug to the router.
Additional Information:
You can also connect other high powered devices to the breakout board using any of the output terminals. You will need to supply extra relays like the one shown here:
-breakout-Relays-relay-board-250V-12A-5V
Or you can find SSRs (Solid State Relays) that will accept 5v to drive the relay coil. Make sure the SSR will protect the 5V line from Back EMF as there is a coil in the relay. The one we sell contains a fly-back diode to protect the 5v terminal.
