Dhokha: Round D Corner is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language romantic psychological thriller film directed by Kookie Gulati and produced by Bhushan Kumar under T-Series.[1] It stars R. Madhavan, Khushali Kumar, Aparshakti Khurana and Darshan Kumar.[2][3] The film marks the acting debut of Khushalii Kumar.[4]

In July 2019, T Series announced that Khushali Kumar would make her acting debut in a project titled Dahi Cheeni directed by debutant filmmaker Ashween Neal Mani, and featuring R. Madhavan in a further leading role. However, the project was stalled after the first draft did not materialise as expected, and prompted T Series to launch a new film with the same cast.[5]

The first song "Mere Dil Gaaye Ja (Zooby Zooby)" song was remake of the film Dance Dance's "Zooby Zooby" performed by Alisha Chinai with Bappi Lahiri as composer and Anjaan as lyricist. Kohinoor Mukherjee worked as a mixing and mastering engineer for the song "Tu Banke Hawa".[citation needed]

Dhaval Roy of The Times of India rated the film 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "You may enjoy the movie for its performances, but if suspense thrillers are your jam, you may feel deceived".[6] Grace Cyril of India Today rated the film 2.5 out of 5 stars and wrote "Selling scripts like these as top-notch thrillers starring superstars is the biggest dhokha with the audience! The highlight of the movie is just the climax. If suspense thrillers are your thing, give it a go. Also for Aparshakti and Khushalii's performances".[7] Deepa Gahlot of Rediff rated the film 2 out of 5 stars and wrote "At no point in Dhoka: Round D Corner does the tension build up as it goes quickly from thriller to unintentional comedy".[8]

There is a moving human kernel in the midst of this concocted, craven mess, but Dhokha is too reliant on technology to take this kernel seriously. The cinematography by Amit Roy forces you to pay attention to his shaky hand-held frames, to the tension he is so consciously curating that it lacks any of the presence of space and time that thrillers need. The film begins with what is supposed to be one uninterrupted shot introducing Sanchi and Yatharth as they fall in and out of love. (Note to filmmakers: That one-long take from the ocean gliding to the building, swooping into the apartment through the grills, is no longer as impressive, and certainly not as novel as you think it is. Merely technology isn't enough to produce awe.)

The film wants you to ask these questions, as it goes about cutting back and forth from the flat from where the fugitive is making demands of money and a getaway vehicle, and the posse of cops down below, with a battery of TV reporters noisily standing by.

Way back in 1940, a British film was made under the title Gaslight. It had an American version in 1944. Since then, it has inspired a lot of psychological thrillers, in India too. In the film, a man plots to convince his wife and all around them that she is mad, in order to recover the jewels that he had tried to steal from her late aunt, who he had just murdered, but had failed by the sudden arrival of the girl, who he befriends and marries, years later. Now imagine this premise and add to it several other intertwined plots of deceit and betrayal, this time inspired by the 1950 Japanese classic, Rashomon, in which there are differing versions of the same incidents and events, all coming across as true, in flashback. Dhokha is a classic case of over-writing and overkill. Perhaps realising that Gaslight was the inspiration for films like Who Kaun Thi and Yeh Raat Phir Na Aayegi, and Rashomon has been made several times, including a version called Sajan, the writers sat down to try and be different, and build an intricate web of deception, where everybody is deceiving everybody. Sadly, though, they ended-up deceiving the audience too.

Among many flaws that the film has, the greatest problem is its lack of logic. A terrorist on a death sentence falls in love with his hostage in a matter of hours, a police officer who has zero knowledge about controlling such a situation is put in charge, the snipers who stand there with guns but fire not a single bullet even when they get multiple chances - the list is endless. It gets irritating at a point to see Madhavan and Darshan continuously chit-chatting and smoking, as if a wanted criminal is not on the loose. We expected action and drama, but we get a daily-soap approach.

Dhokha quickly becomes monotonous and repetitive with predictable twists. However, it picks up pace in the second half. The big plot twist is noteworthy, but may appeal only to viewers unfamiliar with the genre. The characters and backstories are not developed enough to be convincing, especially in Sanchi's case. The director succeeds in maintaining ample curiosity among the audience about whom to trust and who not to trust, but in doing so, the film loses its own perspective.

The stars of the film are Aparshakti Khurana and Khushalii Kumar. Even as a debutante, Khushalii pulls off her role as a manipulative and seductive housewife with perfection. Aparshakti is impactful as Gul and nails his character. That said, we got to question why R Madhavan said yes to this role after the super successful and universally lauded Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.

Final thoughts, selling scripts like these as top-notch thrillers is the biggest dhokha with the audience! The highlight of the movie is just the climax. If suspense thrillers are your thing, give it a go. Also for Aparshakti and Khushalii's performances.

Dhokha- Round D Cornerhas been produced by T-Series films. Kookie Gulati, who has directed Dhokha- Round D Corner, previously wrote and directed The Big Bull starring Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana D'Cruz.

Meanwhile, Madhavan was last seen in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect which was also directed by the actor. The film is a biographical drama based on the life of former ISRO scientist and aerospace engineer Nambi Narayanan.

Wasn't it supposed to be a psychological thriller? But what did we get instead, a half baked crap! It has every of those trops which makes a film terrible. Over the top acting, so convenient plot reveals, logically senseless that the police don't even pretend to be putting any efforts, characters casually talking to one another in a hostage situation and what not. And that opening shot was one of the shittiest use of render in cinema ever.

The film did have potential, the script had not one but numerous opportunities to encash the positives, but it couldn't, or should I rather say it did not want to. The anecdote in itself was not half bad, as can be noticed in the last act, where the film seeks redemption but alas! It was already too late.

Dhokha is R Madhavan's latest release after the success of his directorial, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. He had played the titular role of ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan in the film. The actor has said he is focussing more on his acting career and doesn't think he is interested in directing any film any time soon. He mentioned that he is a "by chance director" and that in the near future there are no plans of donning the director's hat.

He told ANI, "I'm a by chance director... so for me to say that I look forward to directing another film, it has to come within my heart or a story that I relate to but for the moment I'm enjoying doing films like this one - Dhokha for instance."

The first film featured an ensemble of Anshuman Jha, Nushrat Bharucha, Rajkummar Rao, Neha Chauhan, Arya Banerjee, Amit Sial and Aaditi Pohankar among others. Love Sex Aur Dhokha 2 is presented by Balaji Telefilms Limited and Cult Movies. Ektaa Kapoor produces the film with mother Shobha Kapoor.

R. Madhavan is clearly on cloud nine after the critical and commercial success of his directorial debut Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which he also acted in. It was a film that was based on the incredible life of scientist Nambi Narayanan. It released in cinemas on July 1 and is now steeled on Voot Select and Amazon Prime Video India.

Madhavan made his Bollywood debut with Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein along with Dia Mirza in 2001 and was then seen in films like Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar, Ramji Londonwaley, 13B, Teen Patti, 3 idiots, and Saala Khadoos.

As per media reports, Dhokha Round Corner earned Rs 0.20 crore at the box office on day 6. This takes the film's total collection to Rs 3.14 crore. the collections are also affected owing to the ticket price drop. On Cinema Day, when the film was released the tickets were priced at Rs 75. Post that they are currently being sold at Rs 100.

Starring actors R Madhavan, Aparshakti Khurana, Darshan Kumaar and Khushalii Kumar, the Bollywood film 'Dhokha - Round D Corner' had hit the theaters on September 23. Kookie Gulati's suspense drama marks the debut of Khushalii Kumar. The movie is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Dharmendra Sharma and Vikrant Sharma.

'Dhokha - Round D Corner' is a multi-perspective pacy film. Based on a day in the life of an urban couple, the movie takes you on an unexpected journey with twists and turns showcasing a grey shade of each character.

The film also sees R Madhavan featuring in a remake of the groovy dance number 'Mere Dil Gaaye Jaa', from the 1987 film 'Dance Dance'. He found it an honour to feature in the number 'Mere Dil Gaaye Jaa' which is a remake of the legendary song 'Zooby Zooby'.
