Hi Jack,Welcome to the SAP Community. A couple pointers to help improve your time here.First, there is not much point in writing your question twice when the first one is held for moderation due to being new to the site. Both of your questions were held for moderation, as I'm sure you're aware, and eventually another moderator released one of them. I have deleted the 2nd, as it's superfluous. In doing so, you simply create more work for the moderators, as well as for yourself. Shortly, after a couple successful questions or answers, your new content will no longer be held for moderation. Please be patient.Second, there is absolutely no point to creating user tags for people's names. It does not notify them in any way, and only muddies the system. I have removed the extraneous user tags. The title "user tag" does not mean to put names of users, it means "user-created," i.e. it's a way for you to add additional searchable keywords on your question, such as "network" or "vpn," etc. There are more than just two people who can help you with your question, so why restrict it only those two? The best way to get the attention of the right people is to use the right subject tags, which I'll speak more on in the next paragraph. If you absolutely must send a notification to one or more particular people, you can enter their username preceded with the @ symbol in the text of your question. Ideally, this is to ensure a notification when they are already involved in the discussion, or it's of particular interest to them personally, and not because you want to flag them down and make them pay attention to you.Third, your primary tag was "logging of SAP GUI for Windows." That's about what it says: logging and tracing. NOT logging on. That tag is frequently misused, and personally I wish SAP would remove it, but logging and tracing is a functionality and therefore it has a tag. The correct tag for your question is "UI SAP GUI for Windows." I have taken the liberty of changing this for you. With the correct tag, you are far more likely to be noticed by people who can help you.Finally.... search. Your question is frequently asked, and the answer is already out there for this same question asked by other people in the past. There is also an SAP Note which addresses this question with troubleshooting hints. It is a requirement in the SAP Community to search before asking in order to reduce the number of duplicate questions.Best regards,
Matt Fraser

See Note 2499735 for some troubleshooting pointers. This error is common when using Microsoft DirectAccess with a Group instead of a server name for load balancing, or in other situations where you might be connecting over IPv6 without properly enabling IPv6 end-to-end on your network and on your SAP servers. It's also common when there are DNS name resolution issues. As you say that the issue is intermittent, and that when the connection is working you can ping the server, but when the connection stops and you get this error, you can no longer ping the server, that makes it pretty clear that it's not an SAPGUI issue, but a network issue. I would engage your network administrator or whoever manages your VPN to help investigate what's going on with your VPN connection.Cheers,
