Justa day after featuring a Zombie Survival mode in Battlefield 2042, the developers removed it from the official playlist because players were using it to farm XP that can be used to unlock weapons, ribbons, and other in-game content in other modes.
Zombie Survival was launched in Portal, where both Battlefield 2042 players and devs can design and host custom game types ranging from serious to silly. XP farming in Portal isn't new. We wrote about XP farming in November 2021, after the Gold and Ultimate editions of the game went live: Small teams of human players on XP farming servers would square off against large hordes of bots with minimal health and no weapons, mowing them down en masse for quick and easy character advancement.
The Zombie Survival mode sounds like essentially the same thing: A squad of four players has to hold out against 60 zombies for an hour, the catch being that the zombies are actually infinite: There are only 60 at a time, but it's impossible to kill them all. As GameSpot described it, the zombies in the mode look like standard AI-controlled soldiers, but they can't sprint and can only attack with knives.
It was meant to be a time-limited event, available until January 27, but EA pulled it the day after it launched when it became apparent that players were grinding out ridiculous amounts of XP, throwing the rest of the game out of whack.
"We've removed the Zombie's mode and replaced it with Gun Game," tweeted Justin Wiebe, senior design director at Ripple Effect. "Hopefully we can fix it in the future and keep it in alignment with standard game progression. We've also tightened out review process to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you for your patience and understanding."
"I think there was potential for the mode but [it] needs to go back into the workshop for a bit," Wiebe said in a separate reply tweet. "Regardless, we need to be focusing on more important issues like improving core XP progression for BF Portal." EA revealed the first round of changes coming to Battlefield Portal's XP system last week.
Wiebe also admitted that the mode shouldn't have been passed by EA's review process, saying, "I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode clouded our ability to see such a simple thing like the impact it would have on progression."
Players in the Battlefield 2042 subreddit were disappointed by the removal of Zombie Survival mode, and not just because it was an easy way to hammer out XP: Multiple redditors said it was also quite a lot of fun to play. There's also widespread acknowledgement that the mode was letting players crank out way too much XP way too quickly, however.
Outside of Portal, Battlefield 2042 developers are tuning the "core XP progression," rolling out a new scoreboard next month, and also have issues with All-Out Warfare matchmaking and all-platform VOIP to deal with.

Hello everyone,my name is alihan taşkale,ı havent played battlefield series in a long time,then i bought battlefield 5 two months ago,actually i played the latest battlefield 1942 vietnam.years passed,so ı started playing battlefield 5,but there were some problems;
1-)why there is no zombie mod in this game?you say " we try to stick to the original game " ı think ,"YOU THİNK call of duty zombie mods are not yours",you cant ignore THE ZOMBİE MODS that many people love because someone found before you.
People might as well just play Zombies in CoD or Zombie Army if they want true zombies since they sort of perfected the formula (in a manner of speaking; it could obviously do with some improvements).
Almost every shooter out there with custom lobbies have had their own version of zombies though - usually, you have one side with pistols and the other only gets a knife (sometimes extra speed and/or damage) and each time a human dies they get teamswapped so at the end of the day, everyone gets a victory
When the match first starts, we want every player to be a human so they can run around and pick a position they want to defend. Then after 45 seconds elapses we'll infect random players in a loop until there's 8 humans left.
In the rule below, we call GetAliveHumans and infect random players until GetAliveHumans is no longer greater than 8. We call GetAliveHumans at the end of the loop as we need to update our global variables after infecting a player.
If zombies could shoot, the humans would have a tough time surviving. We need to stop zombies from being able to switch weapons, and also ensure they have no ammo just in case there's a glitch that allows them to switch to a gun.
Note that we set the TeamId of the player to 2, so that players who join the match after the initial infection occurs will become zombies, and so that humans who kill themselves will respawn as a zombie.
To help balance your game mode you might want to buff zombies when they get a kill, or buff alive humans if a human dies. For example when a zombie kills a human, you can give the zombie +50 max health like so:
Battlefield 2042 is currently going through a very tumultuous period. Not only are Battlefield fans frustrated with the game's design and technical issues, but changes are being made to XP progression in the Portal mode in response to feedback. There are going to be growing pains, as a result, and the first casualty is Battlefield's recently-released Zombie Survival Mode. Ripple Effect Studios confirmed that Zombie Survival has been disabled in Battlefield 2042's Portal, replaced with Gun Game.
The issue with Zombie Survival unfortunately has to do with XP and the changes made just prior to Zombie Survival's release. Battlefield 2042 players were using Zombie Survival to quickly earn XP, using an exploit where zombies were unable to reach them. Given that the exploit had to do with the design of the mode, necessary changes couldn't be made quickly enough to justify keeping Zombie Survival up. As such, it made more sense to take it down and replace it.
Ripple Effect's senior design director Justin Wiebe confirmed the mode's removal, promising that in doing so it had helped the development team's approach to future Portal mode releases. Wiebe explains that as a result of Zombie Survival, the team tightened its review process in order to ensure that similar events don't happen again. Wiebe also acknowledged that the Zombie Survival mode needed additional time in the "workshop" and that it wasn't fully cooked and ready for release even without the XP issue.
That said, Wiebe does say that Ripple Effect is hoping to bring back a more polished Zombie Survival game mode in the future. The priority, for the time being, is figuring out how to bring Zombie Survival's XP progression back in line with non-Portal modes. Later, the team can revisit the gameplay and improve the experience to be even better than before. Wiebe admits that the team wanting a "fun zombie mode" overwrote its judgment on whether the mode was ready for release.
There did seem to be a solid following of Battlefield 2042 players who were enjoying Zombie Survival before its removal. However, the positive reception was significantly hurt by the number of accounts farming XP. Bringing back the zombie mode is very likely to be positively received down the line.
For the time being, players will be able to play Gun Game in Battlefield 2042's Portal instead of Zombie Survival. Gun Game has previously been available in Portal as Gun Master of Ages, customized by JackFrags. Gun Game has weapons changing over time, escalating in power with kills. While it's not a new mode, it should keep Battlefield 2042 fans busy until the next Portal mode is ready to go.
Battlefield 2042 has added a new, community-made mode themed around zombies. Called Zombie Survival, the mode was created by user StoneMountain64 and has teams of four human players fighting against waves of "zombies" and duking it out to survive until rescue arrives.
The zombies are actually other AI soldiers in terms of their character models, but they cannot sprint and they only use knives to attack. They are especially deadly in groups. If a human player dies, your team needs to reach a set amount of zombie kills to redeploy. The mode is set on smaller sections of maps from Battlefield 2042, Battlefield 3, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 1942.
Zombie Survival is a limited-time event, and will be available until January 27. It's available in Battlefield 2042 through the Battlefield Portal menu. Portal is Battlefield 2042's mash-up mode that allows players to create custom gametypes that can even feature content from multiple different Battlefield games.
