In terms of contingencies, this innovative system will aid the maintenance staff for back-feeding any affected area through other sources of power supply, as well as provide early restoration of power supply while also predicting and providing time of restoration to the consumers. The system will also help maintenance staff to monitor power situation via mobile devices in real- time.

Walking through Toronto's Regent Park on a cold winter day, you would only see steam rising from the roof of a 22-storey apartment building at the corner of Dundas & Sackville, but not from any of the other new high-rises. This small cloud of water vapour hints at a much larger story hidden underground: an energy centre two storeys below provides heating and cooling to 18 new buildings through a vast thermal network of pipes carrying hot and cold water. This "district energy system" is an efficient, resilient, and integrated urban energy solution that will act as the platform for Regent Park's low-carbon future.
Our first stop is the boiler room, where four natural gas-fired boilers provide space heating and hot water to the buildings. The group, expecting a comfortably warm room, is instead cold and disappointed by the high-efficiency boilers, which waste little heat.
Finally, on the other side of a knock-out wall, we enter an empty room with four concrete pads and some high-voltage electrical equipment. This is where 2.7 MW of combined heat and power (CHP) generation will be located, which will supply additional heat through the thermal network, as well as electricity to TCHC buildings through a microgrid.
District energy system prospects are enhanced in dense, mixed-use developments, but they require substantial upfront expenditures and an ongoing commitment to ultimately be successful. TCHC recognized the long-term value of reduced operating costs and decided to make the investment. Once the CHP units are commissioned and as the network expands to serve the 12,000 people that will one day live here, TCHC and Toronto will continue to derive economic, environmental and resilience benefits:
All of this being said, the amazing story of the Regent Park district energy system is that is has no presence in the public realm. It is a great example of an urban energy solution because it has a major impact on energy use and emissions, but you would probably never know it existed unless you saw it for yourself.
The production cost of electricity is a very important index in national development. Electricity tariff depends on the fuel cost which carries the highest percentage of the total operation cost in any power plant. In order to keep electricity tariff as low as possible, fuel cost which carries the highest percentage of the total operating cost has to be minimized. Economic operation of the power plants can be achieved through economic load dispatch and unit commitment. Lagrange relaxation is one of the best solutions in solving economic load dispatch problem because it is more efficient and easier than other methods. This approach has been implemented to minimize the fuel cost of generating electricity while taking into account some technical constraints.
"We are excited to work with U.S. News & World Report to incorporate 3M AM-PPCs software in the iconic Best Hospitals rankings," said Sandeep Wadhwa, MD, 3M HIS global chief medical officer. "This collaboration will provide consumers with new and valuable insights on patient safety outcomes for common outpatient surgeries. This can help inform decision making and choices for elective procedures. We also look forward to supporting health systems in their efforts to reduce adverse events by using our solution's drill-down capabilities to help identify areas for improvement."
About 70 percent of all surgeries in the U.S. now occur in an outpatient setting, according to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services 2017 report. Hospitals are mostly equally balanced in revenue between inpatient and outpatient services. 3M's solution helps quality teams better measure performance in outpatient settings, which have been traditionally more difficult settings to measure longer term outcomes because recovery happens at home under less supervision.
Developed to address patient safety and quality oversight for procedures performed in hospital outpatient departments or ambulatory surgery centers, 3M AM-PPCs uses sophisticated classification logic and allows providers and payers to identify and analyze complications in outpatient settings by specific procedures, service lines, providers and facilities. Medicare and national benchmarks are also available for users to support quality performance evaluations.
A 3M analysis of more than 11 million at-risk ambulatory procedures in the Medicare population indicates that complication rates may be as high as 10 percent for certain procedures. Complications are associated with excess follow-up visits, emergency department visits and inpatient admissions, and can affect patient safety, satisfaction and emotional health.
"As care delivery shifts toward outpatient settings, outpatient quality and safety are increasingly important to patients and health systems alike," said Ben Harder, U.S. News & World Report managing editor and chief of health analysis. "U.S. News, as a trusted decision support tool for patients, is proud to use both outpatient and inpatient outcome measures in its evaluations of hospital performance. Our work with 3M has enabled us to measure and publicly report on nearly 2,000 hospitals' potentially preventable adverse events after outpatient surgeries. Specifically, U.S. News used 3M AM-PPCs software to incorporate new outcome measures, labeled 'prevention of outpatient procedural complications,' into this year's Orthopedics and Urology rankings. Similar outcome measures may be added to other specialty rankings in future editions of U.S. News Best Hospitals."

Here at Microsoft, our large and diverse external, non-FTE workforce plays a vital role in our success. For us, external staff includes contractors, consultants, freelancers, and business guests who provide services, expertise, and support for various projects and products. As a company, we partner with more than 110,000 external staff in 119 countries and regions, representing almost 40% of our workforce.
Managing such a large and dynamic population of external staff is a big challenge for our Human Resources Operations team, which handles onboarding, data management, compliance, and reporting tasks for external staff.
To address these challenges and achieve its vision of having a single HR source system for our entire workforce, the team decided to migrate external staff management to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, a cloud-based human experience management (HXM) solution that offers a comprehensive and flexible platform for employee and external staff lifecycle management.
Implementation involved massive amounts of coordination from Rajaraman and his team. The implementation involved massive amounts of coordination from the core program team, which conducted a comprehensive study and analysis of user behavior, feedback, and pain points involving over 25 stakeholder groups. The team also performed multiple mock runs and data quality checks to ensure a successful data conversion from the previous solution to SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central, involving over 5 million rows of data for external staff.
We had many complex, unique requirements for our contingent staff. We wanted to create a solution that met those complexities with a consistent user experience and integrated with our other dependent systems.
The MSD Engineering Team used the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) to extend and customize SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central and SAP Fiori to create a consistent and intuitive user experience.
SAP BTP is an open and integrated platform that enables customers to build, extend, and integrate applications in the cloud. SAP Fiori is a design system that provides a user-friendly and responsive interface for SAP applications. Using BTP and Fiori enabled us to take the broad functionality of SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central and build in the customization and specialized functionality that a business of our complexity required. By using SAP BTP and SAP Fiori, our team was able to:
