Fr. Agnel College, Pilar is organizing APJ Conference on 12^th August, 2016. Please find the link to the brochure and itinerary of the same.  I am invited to present a paper on "Education and Entrepreneurship: Evaluating the preparedness of our graduates" in this conference. Given below is the abstract of the same.

 

In the recent times, Entrepreneurship is gaining more prominence among the masses. More and more youngsters would like to weave their own dreams as a career option and many have realised them too. But to test ones sails in an open undiscovered ocean of opportunities takes a lot of courage and determination. For many this dream remains a dream. It can be attributed to many factors like insufficient skill set, marketing capabilities, finances, mentorship, etc. The paper finds that the main reason is the lack of confidence among the scholastics. Even after successful completion of their studies at the educational institutes, the skillset they acquire is at times inadequate. The educational environment is many times quite distant than that of the business environment. And hence the graduate may not prefer to venture on his/her own for the fear of failure or because of inexperience

This paper aims to understand whether these challenges can be tackled by education and would evaluate the current education system and would attempt to suggest reforms like education through enterprise, so as to create more entrepreneurs than salaried executives. It will further discuss the economics of entrepreneurship and the benefits it brings as a whole to the society and the local economy.
