I'd barely had time to settle in to the TUAW rhythm before the Cult of
Mac gig came sailing by and I jumped aboard. So now I'm trying to
discover the Cult rhythm.
Alongside that, my posts for O'Reilly's Inside iPhone site
(http://blogs.oreilly.com/iphone/ - henceforth known as II) have been
few and far between, something I really need to sort out. Again, it's
down to settling in. I spent too much time concentrating on TUAW while
I was there, and not enough thinking about II.
Having regular work is nice, but it means adopting a working pattern
of sorts, something that's a little alien for a freelancer who's not
worked in a Proper Office for years.
I'm working in the pub this morning. Having walked to and from school
twice (my son forgot his recorder, so dad had to go home and fetch it
for him) and then done 20 minutes of weeding in the school veg garden
(reward - I get to take home a marrow if I want to; I'll probably
roast it, or make it into a tagine:
http://www.reactivecooking.com/archives/247).
Arriving at the pub feeling like I've done a morning's worth of stuff
already and it's not quite 10am, I order myself a pot of tea (three
cups, plenty) and toast with jam. I feel productive and awake.
So, today's attempt at a rhythm: spend two hours finding and writing
posts for the Cult and for II. Wander homewards, or possibly
townwards, for lunch. Then spend a further couple of hours on Other
Things That Need Writing. And before you know it, it's time to return
to school for the fetching.
I still can't say I'm settled, but this is the experiment phase. I'm
trying out options, to see what works.
