As an old fuddy-duddy, I still enjoy playing CDs on the family hifi. I
know, I know, *so* old-fashioned. Old habits and all that.

But those old habits can get in the way sometimes. I find, when
browsing the dual ranks of Ikea Billy CD racks in the kitchen (doesn't
everyone keep their hifi in the kitchen?), that my eyes are
automatically pulled to the same old same old CDs every time. My
favourites, of course. I like them, that's why they're favourites.

After a while, though, I start feeling guilty about the
non-favourites. Those CDs I spent good money on, but rarely listen to.

Time to do something about that. The other day, I went through the
Billies systematically, and *pulled out* all the unfaves by an inch or
so, such that their spines are more in-my-face. And then imposed a
rule: the week's listening choices could only be made from the
sticking-out CD selection.

What fun that's been. Hey look! Music I'd forgotten about! Talvin
Singh! The Wannadies! (Hmmm.) A selection of They Might Be Giants
B-sides and Out-takes! (Ummmm.) "London 0 Hull 4"! (Not as good as I'd
remembered it.) "Done by the forces of nature"! (Now, actually, that's
*fab* and I can't understand why it doesn't get played more often.)

This is fun, you should try it.
