Is a pure sniper going to be versatile enough? I would be happy to change it to other weapon type (Assault Rifle, for instance) if that would make my character more survivable. I just thought that sniper would synergise well with stealth.

The game Stealth Sniper is a realistic shooting simulator from a sniper rifle. It is available for both PC and Mac. You will need to train to be a stealth sniper who does not want to be detected. Throughout the game, you will be instructed to conduct four different tasks located on different maps. Your only weapon is a sniper rifle, which is your only option. Advanced light technology allows a snipers (or gunslingers) cover screen to perfectly blend in with their surroundings effectively hiding them sight. Effect lasts until broken, can't be used in combat, must be in cover to use.
I've always thought snipers should have some sort of a stealth as well, though like the above posters said, only useable in cover, so you can't move in it. It would still fit in really well with the concept of a sniper: shooting first from a good vantage point. Would make snipers better at defending objectives in alderaan and novare coast.
In my opinion a ranged stealth class is a really bad idea. I remember dealing with them years ago in DAOC (rangers). The range we have is long enough without the added surprise of not being able to ever see the target to begin with and prepare for the incoming damage.
B: (remembers: THAT DAMN ELF HUNTER THAT ONE SHOTTED HIS 5 lvl orc warrior from stealth, remembers the pain) WHAIT WHAT????!!!!! Snipers should stay on open with big red marks on them everybody should jump them (murmurs: hate that useless campers anyway, handsome men play assasins and maras).
Our defensive abililty. We have no oh noes I need to get away from the 3 incoming nme bad guys button, we just die. That would be my reason for wanting stealth. I would also be happy with an airlift, that picks me up and plonks me next to my nearest team player Any kind of escape really in a 3 min cd or whatever.
You mean no defensive abilities besides cover pulse, flash bang, debilitate or debilitate + slip away, shield probe, ballistic dampers, ballistic shield, evasion and entrench. As cool as a hide would be for snipers I don't think it is needed at all. Actually I will say that 4 classes having a stealth is overboard. Remember that Sins, maras and ops already have stealth of some form. Next you will see Sorcs wanting invis or mercs wanting a hide too... I mean why not? They are a tech class. With all the Bounty Hunter tech no ones has stealth?
I have no issues playing my sniper in pvp and actually perform quite well in 1v1 against some of the most hated classes so far... E.I. operatives and marauders. Deception sins and Juggs seem to be the only melee that is scary to me and that is largely due to their knockbacks/knockdowns and stuns.
1. Exactly my point. Snipers get stealth and mercs or PTs will want stealth. Being tech classes there is nothing in the lore preventing it... we don't need more stealth classes. Where did I mention real life?
As far as cover goes it's not nearly as hampering as people try to make it sound. If you think cover is the down fall of the class then you just aren't good at it. I have zero issues dealing with melee in melee range, playing smart and redoplying cover on the move. The only time I get completely shut down is when I have 3+ on me and stuns rolling on me. NO CLASS performs optimally at this point. It's not unique to sniper. Check my sig, I actually play more than one class and it is something you should obviously consider with you complaints about sniper.
Agreed with you on that point, though it would be cool to have some sort of stealth, I really dont see us needing it. It seems like a lot of people in this thread want this to just be able to get the upper hand on multiple people at once, for like an escape. This would put us up there with the other classes in terms of utility, but instead of that they need to make them less idk the word for it...utilititized...? Either way if you have to run away from 3 guys in a WZ, you messed up for putting yourself in that spot. That is not how Intelligence would handle things lol
Stealth wise, if we could get into position and assume cover, it would be nice to be able to take on a stealth until attacking - this would not be too powerful - our weapons only fire 5 meters further than the pistols and though melees need to close and our cover is limiting that, well they can back off and line of sight us rather than run full tilt at us straight away (though if shield or sabre users option is there...)
