The iX1500 might have a few new features or improvements; but if you look at the reviews, not everyone likes it as much as they did the ix500. Personally, the iX500 does everything I need it to do. These scanners are not cheap to replace; and don't even get me started on how the iX500 (and its sexy blue light) looks so much better and more expensive looking than the iX1500, which could pass for a child's toy.

Needless to say, I had no intentions of replacing my iX500 with it's ugly new descendant, the iX1500; therefore, since I 've had my iX500 for around 7 years, I thought I should start perusing craigslist for a gently used backup iX500.

Specifically, the top of the page states, "The following table shows the ScanSnap discontinued scanners and their support end dates. After the support end dates, hardware repairs and software updates including driver updates are no longer provided".

I'm in the same boat as you @JodyHeath.Com I think it's crazy what Fujitsu are doing / have decided to do regarding the ix500. The only thing we can do after 2024 is use it offline, connecting it directly to a laptop or desktop. Plus also make sure we have good copies of the drivers somewhere we can always retrieve them should we experience a failure. What else is there for us, beyond a decision change from the powers that be - at Fujitsu?

A few months ago, I was on a similar site to CraigsList in the UK called TrashNothing - the focus being to avoid things going into landfill. Anyway, someone had listed an office clearance - everything was going - FOR FREE!!! I saw an ix500 - in near mint condition according to what I could see at least... but I was too slow, it had already gone by the time I had reached out to the OP. Gutted! I would have snapped it up and kept it for use or at the very least parts should my original eventually fall over.

Software will continue to work, the scanner will scan. Ending support just means a freeze of what we have currently. And a Scanner does not need to be exposed to the internet, no real security issues.

I have a good 6 year old IX500 and have been scanning seamlessly via Wifi with a push of a button (without needing the laptop) directly to Evernote.
As most of you know, Evernote only allows ScanSnap connectivity for one year, so every 12 months I need to login and update the ScanSnap authorization at Evernote side.

However during a recently, I downloaded the new 2023 ScanSnap software (MacOS 13) but could not find the "ScanSnap Cloud" icon anywhere or means to connect.
Now I can only scan directly to Evernote when my laptop is within Wifi, with ScanSnap software running.
And the IX500 LED button is no longer purple (just the regular blue).

Seeking help from this experienced forum is appreciated. Thank you.

You could explore scanning to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or similar. Then create a directory there for your scans. Make the directory on your laptop an Import Folder then when you fire up the laptop Evernote should import everything waiting in the directory.

ScanSnap Cloud installed on a smartphone, and connected via WiFi to the scanner. It then received the scan, and could send it to a cloud storage of your choice. EN was among the options - this allowed to scan without ramping up the computer.

I went with ScanSnap Home when I upgraded from the ix500 to ix1600 and for what it is worth, I find the multiple scanning options very worthwhile, especially when I can choose them right from the LCD display on the ix1600. Using different setups I have fingertip control of scan formats going into my database.

The SANE team got it working by hacking up a backend for the ix500. It currently only provides color scans at the driver level (gray and B&W are done in software). Pull down the sane-backend project from the git repo, compile it, and install. There may be a few permission problems, but as root, I can run simple-scan and get everything I want out of it.

This device prides itself on wireless however the wireless only works with Android and the iPhone, and to make matters even worse configuring the device to connect to the WiFi access point requires Windows or MacOS.

Thank you. I did run into a problem updating firmware and it would not recognize my scansnap ix500. I tried unplugging device and it just did not recognize it. I opted out of the firmware update and scanner worked.

I have run the WiFi setup (ScanSnap Home / Preferences). The procedure recognises that the iX500 is already configured for WiFi, if I choose not to reconfigure the ScanSnap Home app indicates that WiFi is correctly configured. If I choose to reconfigure, and after so doing so again the ScanSnap app again indicates that WiFI is configured.

I also installed the iOS app, and there was no problem scanning via WiFi from the iOS. I read the instructions that if the iOS app is running than I cannot connect the Mac via WiFi and I both first closed the app on the iOS device and uninstalled it from the iOS - but neither made a difference.

For me the most irritating thing is that every time I click on Preferences / Account I am told I have to sign-in - if I do not do so I cannot use the software (and cannot scan) - I can no longer use the software without signing in and because the software does not retain the setting - I have to keep doing this - this is annoying.

i can see that one of the posters is unable to connect via USB. I had no problem scanning via USB. Also at one point I uninstalled this new version and returned to the older version, again without problem.

Reply to myself: not solved. Scanner gone from the network again. Dear Fujitsu: get this fixed or the iX500 will get thrown out of the window for being useless. It only has one simple job: scan stuff over WiFi to a PDF. Only that needs to work.

Spent a few weeks going back and forth with the customer support folks here in Singapore but I refused to give up. Finally, we realised that ScanSnap has a new firmware version (0T00). The Mac version of ScanSnap Home app does not give us the option to update the firmware. So, they sent me a link:

Like others here, USB connectivity works fine, but my Mac (Mojave) does not reliably connect to the scanner via WiFi. The scanner itself joins the WiFi network and works perfectly. I tried many software troubleshooting suggestions without success.

I decided to observe network traffic between my Mac and the scanner and witnessed the scanner announcing itself to my Mac via UDP (on the correct port number), but my Mac sends no reply packets. ScanSnap Home never indicates communication from the ix500 scanner, and remains in the unavailable state.

I tried the Version 0t00 software but no luck. Here is something I did when I was on the ScanSnap site: there seemed to be a NEW registration with some new restrictions. Although I was already registered for the older ScanSnap when I re-registered again I was able to get my unit to scan. Apparently ScanSnap wants you to sign up for there new restrictions before they will let you scan (at least in my case).

I did the firmware upgrade to version 0T00 but also have no luck. iX500 is still not recognised via wifi but works when connected directly via USB. Strangely, it still works when scanning wireless to my iPhone app.

Thank you so much dknapp. I downloaded the firmware upgrade from the link you provided and my ix500 is now scanning wireless. My problems started when my MacBook updated to macOS Catalina. Thanks again.

I received Adobe with my Fujitsu ScanSnap ix500. I have had to completely reset my PC and now I do not have the program on my PC. I have just moved and cannot find my documentation that came with my scanner. The download must be tied to my Adobe account somehow, but I can't figure out how to redownload the software that I got with the scanner? Please help.

you may download ONLY if you bought direct from Adobe via download
-Log-in to your account and click this link
--click Order history on the left and then the link to your order that will show on the right
--and finally click the link "Downloads and serial numbers" that will appear
--as always, write the serial number in a text file AND copy that text file and the
---download file(s) to an external drive (or two) to be sure you have what you need
-if you did not buy direct from Adobe via download you must find your original install
--if you have an Education or volume license you MUST use your original media
--the link for an Education or volume license download is not available at all
-if you bought a disc and don't have a drive you will need to buy an external USB drive
-if you bought a download from a 3rd party vendor you will need to contact that vendor

I was wondering if you were aware of the issue with the ScanSnap scanners where the blue light keeps blinking when you open the top and the ScanSnap button on the task bar shows the scanner is not ready to scan?
