Administrators use the Configuration Manager console to manage the Configuration Manager environment. Each Configuration Manager console can connect to a central administration site (CAS) or to a primary site. You can't connect a Configuration Manager console to a secondary site.

Starting in version 2107, the console requires Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.6.2, but version 4.8 is recommended. If you install the console on other devices, make sure to update .NET. If the device doesn't already have it, the console setup doesn't install this prerequisite.

When you install a site server, it copies the console installation files and supported language packs for the site to the Tools\ConsoleSetup subfolder. Optionally, you can copy the ConsoleSetup folder to an alternate location to start the installation. When you update the site, it always keeps its local version up to date.

Installing the Configuration Manager console from the installation media always installs the English version. This behavior happens even if the site server supports different languages, or the target computer's OS is set to a different language.

Always install the console by using ConsoleSetup.exe. Although you can install the Configuration Manager console by running AdminConsole.msi, this method doesn't run prerequisites or dependency checks. The installation might not install correctly.

Installing the Configuration Manager console from a command prompt always installs the English version. This behavior happens even if the target computer's OS is set to a different language. To install the Configuration Manager console in a language other than English, use the Setup Wizard.

The Configuration Manager console requires installation of the built-in WebView2 extension for certain features such as Community hub and dashboards. A notification to install the extension is given to the console user when they open the console. For more information see,the WebView2 console extension.

The simplest method to open the console on a Windows computer is to go to Start and start typing Configuration Manager console. You may not need to type the entire string for Windows to find the best match.

The console connects to your central administration site server or to your primary site servers. You can't connect a Configuration Manager console to a secondary site. During installation, you specified the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the site server to which the console connects.

The ribbon is at the top of the Configuration Manager console. The ribbon can have more than one tab and can be minimized using the arrow on the right. The buttons on the ribbon change based on the node. Most of the buttons in the ribbon are also available on context menus.

If the Configuration Manager console stops responding, you can be locked out of making further changes until the lock expires after 30 minutes. This lock is part of the Configuration Manager SEDO (Serialized Editing of Distributed Objects) system. For more information, see Configuration Manager SEDO.

You can clear your lock on any object in the Configuration Manager console. This action only applies to your user account that has the lock, and on the same device from which the site granted the lock. When you attempt to access a locked object, you can now Discard Changes, and continue editing the object. These changes would be lost anyway when the lock expired.

You can view the most recent connections for the Configuration Manager console. The view includes active connections and those connections that recently connected. You'll always see your current console connection in the list and you only see connections from the Configuration Manager console. You won't see PowerShell or other SDK-based connections to the SMS Provider. The site removes instances from the list that are older than 30 days.

Starting in version 2203, the Configuration Manager console offers a dark theme. To use the theme, select the arrow from the top left of the ribbon, then choose Switch console theme. Select Switch console theme again to return to the light theme. As of version 2303, the main screen of the console and delete secondary site wizards adhere to the dark theme.

The Configuration Manager console includes a PowerShell module with over a thousand cmdlets to interact programmatically from the command line. Select the arrow at the top of the ribbon, and choose Connect via Windows PowerShell.

We've been having slow SCCM console performance for the last few weeks. It's mostly when dealing with applications, the right-click options are not available while the silver gradient thing goes from left to right.

Other areas of the console seem to respond okay, but creating collections can be slow. At times, the collection evaluation queue can have 700+ collections in it, but we've not been able to correlate that with the slowness. When it's slow, the queue might be empty. As I write this, there were just over 900 collections in the queue (full evaluation), but that quicky dropped to just over 400. Can collection evaluations affect other parts of the system like applications?

When you install SCCM, the console is also installed on the server. The SCCM admins use the console to manage the Configuration Manager environment. Using the Configuration Manager console, you can either connect to a central administration site or a primary site. However, you cannot connect a Configuration Manager console to a secondary site.

It is not advised to use the console installed on the site server if you have a team that regularly uses SCCM console to complete daily tasks. I would suggest that IT professionals install the console on their laptops instead.

In my previous post on SCCM console deployment, I covered the steps to package and deploy the Configuration Manager console using SCCM. If you want to deploy the SCCM console using SCCM, you can use the steps mentioned in that post. In this post, I will cover the manual installation of the ConfigMgr console. It is always good to know the alternate ways to install the SCCM console.

In earlier versions of SCCM, we only used consolesetup.exe to package and deploy the console. However starting with SCCM version 1902, you need all the below files to install the console properly.

Since we are using the /q switch in the console install command, the Configuration Manager console installation is unattended. In addition to the above command, Microsoft supplies another command to install the console with language packs.

Console is installed by default with English set as the default language. In order to specify the path to the folder containing the language files, use the command below with the LangPackDir switch. Read the following guide to change the language of ConfigMgr console.

Finally, I will cover about SCCM console log files. The log files are important when you see the console installation fails or any errors related to console. The below table lists all the all console log files.

Hoping you might be able to help. I have two servers that will not install the console using consolesetup.exe, whether it is run from the GUI or from command line. No install logs appear and nor does the GUI. The process blinks onto Task Manager / Details and immediately disappears. I can install it from Admin Console msi, but obviously I dont want to do that, unless there is a way to include the missing components. The first server is 2016 and is the Primary Site Server. The second is 2019 and is a Terminal server for admins. I have also run the prereqchk.exe with the adminui switch which passes. Thank you for any help pointing me in the right direction.

This post will help me learn and understand SCCM in a better way. I always think about a teaching technique that starts from the SCCM console. Do you think beginning SCCM learning with an SCCM console overview would be ok? You can have more detailed training on SCCM from HTMD SCCM Free training videos.

You can check out our Top 50 Intune and SCCM interview questions in the following list. We have also included some great tips and tricks to get selected in the Interview process. But first of all understanding, the SCCM admin console is the most important step!

Following are the 7 (seven) most commonly used terms within the SCCM admin community. If Microsft can check the heatwave of the SCCM console, I think, admins spend most of their time between Assets and Compliance and Software Library workspaces.

The Asset Intelligence node in the SCCM console helps manage the asset intelligence catalog, import license files, and sync with System Center Online to reconcile software licenses. Navigate via \Assets and Compliance \Overview\Asset Intelligence

Monitoring workspace in the SCCM console is where you check the status and view the alerts of your SCCM environment. Monitoring the workspace is the first place to go when you have to perform some troubleshooting in the SCCM environment. Following are the nodes of the Monitoring workspace

The Administration node in the SCCM console workplace performs all the admin or server management configurations. You could configure the SCCM server and cloud management options via UI from this place. The functionalities of the following nodes are explained in the below section of this post.

Site Configuration node helps SCCM admin manage SCCM site servers and site system roles, security scopes, certificates, and accounts that you configure in the SCCM console. Navigate via \Administration\Overview\Site Configuration.

It kind of seems like you are potentially asking a few different things here so I will give an answer to what I think you are asking and hopefully that helps

1. To add computers to sccm so they show up in your management console, you can either do it manually or via discovery. You can configure discovery in the administration tab. Normally you will want to discover computers from your AD setup.

2. To install the sccm client on the computers, you can either do it manually by running the software on the PC. Alternatively you can push out the client to computer by right clicking them and pushing out the client there.

3.To add software to sccm you can go to the software library tab and create either packages or applications.
