Printingcopying, scanning and faxing stations are available at every library location. Print jobs can be sent from a public computer in the library or from offsite (See Print from Home / Mobile printing, below).
Microfilm and microfiche readers/scanners are available at the Main Library in the Magazines and Newspapers Center. Scanned images may be saved to a USB drive or saved via email message. No appointment is necessary to use the reader/scanners, and staff are available to assist.
Notes for Mobile Devices: We recommend printing from your device's web browser. SFPL does not currently support printing from the ePrintit! App. If you usually access library resources via the SFPL app, you will need to exit the app and visit
sfpl.org/print via web browser to print.
If you have a computer, smartphone, or tablet and have access to the internet, you can print from any location and have your items sent to your local library for printing. Print jobs are kept for 24 hours and then deleted.
Copies are available at the same costs as prints, 10 cents per page for black and white and 20 cents per page for color. When paying with credit card for copies, there is a 99 copy maximum per transactions.
You can retrieve the print at any library location with your card number and PIN. If you have not printed with us before, you will need to speak to a staff member to retrieve your prints.
Scanning to USB flash drive is available at all branches free of charge. Flash drives are available to borrow, or you may purchase one for $5.00. Public computers may be used to email the documents to yourself or another email address. Scanning directly to email is not available at this time.
You can print from the library's public computers for $0.10 a page for black and white and $0.20 a page for color. Print up to $5 worth of prints for free weekly with your TPL library card! Prints can be paid for with cash or credit/debit card.

Duke students receive an allocation of $32 per semester in black-and-white laser printing at OIT's ePrint stations in libraries, computer labs and public spaces. If your balance falls below $9, you can request an increase of $8 to your printing allocation. Undergraduate students may request this increase only once per semester. Note: If you exhaust your allocation, your print jobs will be charged to your FLEX account.
Faculty and staff receive free black and white printing only. Visitors to Duke facilities who lack an ID card can purchase public print/copy cards from campus libraries and add value to those cards in order to be able to use the ePrint system.
Students with a need to print more than the standard allocation for exceptional academic or medical purposes may request an exemption from the quota policy. These requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. ePrint quota exemption form.
Duke's ePrint distributed printing system allows you to print a job again without running back to your computer. After you retrieve your job at a print station, the job goes back into the print queue for 15 minutes. If you need to reprint the job within that timeframe, just swipe your DukeCard at any station and choose the job out of the list of available jobs in your print queue.
The Law School uses Duke's ePrint services but has its own special queue called ePrint-Law-BW. To install Law's ePrint software visit the software download page. Be sure to download the software from the law school software download page to get our printer drivers. (Linux users should be able to print following OIT's instructions, substituting our queue name, ePrint-Law-BW.) You also have other options for accessing the printers; we recommend print by email. Please make sure you download ePrint Client Windows/Mac - SPECIFIC CAMPUS LOCATIONS, then choose Law-Combined when selecting the location.
ePrint stations are located on every floor of the Law Library and outside the library on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors. You will need your Duke Card or a DukeCard enabled mobile phone to print. Please click here to see printer locations.
For the 2022-2023 academic year, some of the B&W printers have been relocated to inside the Law Library. All printers print 8.5 X 11 (Letter) and hold two thousand pieces of paper. There is also a color printer on the first floor of the Law Library, but note that it is not part of the law school queue and charges directly against your Flex account (no law school-provided quota). Color prints are $0.15 and copying, $0.06 for black/white printing and copying, and $0.02 for scan to email - all directly to FLEX.
Easily print your documents on any KDL printer. Just upload your files using the printing portal, enter your unique code (e.g. full name, email address or library card number -- you need this to pick up your print job) and click "Submit". Then walk into any branch or call from a curbside parking spot to retrieve your print job. Remember, printing is free up to 50 pages per week!
Kicscan: located around the corner from the circulation desk on the entry level of the library. The Kicscan machine is ideal for scanning pages from a book. You can save to USB (flash drive) or email. Read the yellow signage and manual for tips. Contact the desk for help!
Epson Scanner: located near the circulation desk, the Epson flatbed scanner is a better choice for scanning individual pages or sheets of paper. IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions on the yellow sheet to ensure that your document is scanned properly with the correct settings.

In order to print copies, you will need to add money to an eprint card from Perkins Library, or to your Duke FLEX account. Duke FLEX can be used for printing, Duke dining, vending machines, and more -- but it is different from the ePrint money loaded onto Duke students' ID cards.
You can present payment and receive your printouts at Lawson McGhee Library, McClung Collection, or any branch library. Your print job confirmation will show your preliminary total, but the calculated total may be less after the job is processed (pages submitted for color printing but that don't have color will be charged at $.15 instead of $.25).
