Obviouslynot everyone that uses filler words is doing so to lie or deceive, but scientists have observed patterns in conversation filler overuse that suggest dishonesty is one reason people use fillers. This is especially evident when the idea in question could be communicated easily without the use of filler words, or when someone delays answering a yes-or-no question by using unnecessary words.
Filler words can give you a more natural, approachable tone. In fact, not using filler words at all might cause you to sound robotic or even arrogant, which would probably not help with your social life, especially in day-to-day, informal conversations.
Note that this may not be the case in a more formal context, such as a business meeting. Sometimes you have to cut out all the flim-flam and get straight to the point, which leads us to the next section.
Remember how kids in primary school would always make fun of that one kid with a stuttering problem? Even if that kid was strong physically or mentally, the others would neglect and look down upon him.

In linguistics, a filler, filled pause, hesitation marker or planner (sometimes called crutches) is a sound or word that participants in a conversation use to signal that they are pausing to think but are not finished speaking.[1][2] These are not to be confused with placeholder names, such as thingamajig. Fillers fall into the category of formulaic language, and different languages have different characteristic filler sounds. The term filler also has a separate use in the syntactic description of wh-movement constructions (see below).
Every conversation involves turn-taking, which means that whenever someone wants to speak and hears a pause, they do so. Pauses are commonly used to indicate that someone's turn has ended, which can create confusion when someone has not finished a thought but has paused to form a thought; in order to prevent this confusion, they will use a filler word such as um, er, or uh.[1][3] The use of a filler word indicates that the other person should continue listening instead of speaking.[4]
Filler words generally contain little to no lexical content, but instead provide clues to the listener about how they should interpret what the speaker has said.[5] The actual words that people use may change (such as the increasing use of like), but the meaning and reason why people use them does not change.[6]
The linguistic term "filler" has another, unrelated use in syntactic terminology. It refers to the pre-posed element that fills in the "gap" in a wh-movement construction. Wh-movement is said to create a long-distance or unbounded "filler-gap dependency". In the following example, there is an object gap associated with the transitive verb saw, and the filler is the wh-phrase how many angels: "I don't care [how many angels] she told you she saw."
In game there have been many complaints of no damage or zero damage penetrating hits of big German guns against soviet armor, and I believe this is due to a lack of modeling of explosive filler in German rounds. Every PzGr 39 round in game of 50mm and up for the Germans are listed only as APCBC with no mention of HE filler. hello and thank you for your concern, however, i can assure you that all german shells that had an HE filler are properly modeled in the game. the issue isn't that they are lacking an HE filler so much as DM's aren't finished yet. the same issue occurs for russian vehicles all the time.

Abstract: In this study, we investigate the use of the filler particles (FPs) uh, um, hm, as well as glottal FPs and tongue clicks of 100 male native German speakers in a corpus of spontaneous speech. For this purpose, the frequency distribution, FP duration, duration of pauses surrounding FPs, voice quality of FPs, and their vowel quality are investigated in two conditions, namely, normal speech and Lombard speech. Speaker-specific patterns are investigated on the basis of twelve sample speakers. Our results show that tongue clicks and glottal FPs are as common as typically described FPs, and should be a part of disfluency research. Moreover, the frequency of uh, um, and hm decreases in the Lombard condition while the opposite is found for tongue clicks. Furthermore, along with the usual F1 increase, a considerable reduction in vowel space is found in the Lombard condition for the vowels in uh and um. A high degree of within- and between-speaker variation is found on the individual speaker level. Filler particles like uhm in English or hm in German show subtle language-specific differences and their variation in form is related to socio-linguistic variables like gender. The use of fillers in a second language has been shown to differ from monolinguals' filler particle use in both frequency and form in different language contexts. This study investigates the language-specific use of filler particles by bilingual heritage speakers in both their languages, looking at the dominant majority language in the society and their minority heritage language spoken at home. This is done based on heritage Russian and German data and majority German and English data from the RUEG corpus. Language-specific fillers were extracted from the corpus and analyzed for their occurrence and segmental form. The frequency analysis suggests an influence of bilingualism, age group, and formality of the situation on the filler frequency across all languages. The number of filler particles is higher in formal, older, and bilingual speech. The form analysis reveals an effect of language and gender on the type of filler particle. The vocalic-nasal filler particles (e.g., uhm) are more frequently found in German and English and in female speech of these languages. Heritage speakers of Russian in contact with German and English show higher use of vocalic-nasal forms also in their Russian while producing similar gender related patterns to monolingual speakers in both their languages. The higher frequency of filler particles in formal situations, older speakers and in bilingual speech, is discussed related to cognitive load which is assumed to be higher in these contexts while speech style which differs between situations and social groups is also considered as explanation. The higher use of vocalic-nasal filler particles in German and English suggests language specific filler particle preferences also related to the socio-linguistic variable gender in these languages. The results from heritage speakers suggest and influence on filler particle form in their heritage language, while also revealing socio-linguistic usage patterns related to gender which are produced by heritage speakers similarly to monolinguals in their respective language.
An experimental study has been carried out to explore the potential of bauxite residue commonly known as red mud, as mineral filler in asphalt mixes. For comparison, control mixes prepared with stone dust were taken for consideration. This study is first of its kind which aims to utilize red mud of Indian origin as filler in asphalt concrete mixes and compare its performance with conventional stone dust filler. Firstly, both materials were characterized through specific gravity, plasticity index, Methylene Blue Value (MBV), particle size distribution, German filler values, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX), hydrophilic coefficient and pH value tests. Secondly, asphalt concrete mixes containing both fillers were designed and Optimum Asphalt Contents (OAC) were determined as per relevant standards. At OAC, mechanical properties of both mixes were assessed by conducting Marshall Stability, Marshall Quotient and Indirect Tensile Strength tests. Moisture susceptibility, active adhesion, passive adhesion and resistance long term aging were inspected by determining Retained Marshall Stability (RMS), mixing time analysis, boiling water test and Mean Marshall Stability Ratio (MMSR), respectively. Red mud modified mixes not only fulfill the requirements specified in Indian paving specifications; but also, they displayed superior Marshall stability and resistances against rutting, cracking and long term aging as compared to conventional stone dust mix. Despite of plastic nature of red mud, asphalt concrete mixes prepared from it not only displayed good active and passive adhesion, but they also fulfilled the desired requirements of resistance against moisture permeation by a higher margin.
