I have been troubled with sore ham strings and have never been very good at stretching prior to running.  While I am adding stretching my ham strings into my routine, I have also learned about the 'stick' for stretching muscles.

I know that there is one called the 'marathon', but was informed that this 'stick' will be too big for my body size, which is of a smaller nature.  Can anyone tell me what size (maybe a better question for the girls in the running club) I should get?  I see there is one on Amazon that measures 17.5" and wonder if that would do the trick for me.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this subject to help me??

Looking forward to your help,

Joy Jacobson

Hey Joy, I get tight hamstrings related to a tear in my hip labrum so
have to stretch all the time. I haven't used that stick but do use a
foam roller. Maybe you've already tried that. Also, if you are
trying to get over the hump with dealing with this, you may consider
ART therapy as well. I see a doctor in Lincoln who has helped me with
tight muscles and injuries, etc. ART stands for Active Release
Therapy. At one point I even wondered if I'd ever be able to run
again, but it's been a little over a year since I started seeing him,
and it's helped me tremendously. So, if you'd like more info, his
name is Adam Gentzler and you can look him up: www.spineandsports.us

Hello Runners,

Wow, what beautiful fall running weather we are having!
A few of us are heading to the Beer and Bagel Run Nov 6th in Ashland. It's a 4 mile off road race that starts at 9:00 a.m.
Please let me know if you are interested in joining!  We hear it's a race you don't wanna miss :)

Side note...some of us have also participated in Warrior Dash runs in the past year.  What an experience! Perhaps, one of the most crazy fun races I have ever ran (or walked...or crawled).  Give it a try if you have a chance.
