Hi everyone,

Ronda and I discussed this last night. Ronda, if I've mixed up the details, please correct me! We have 4 pens open and the Duluth Petco is open. While not 100% guaranteed, we do have a potential adoption on Tuesday, and maybe two bondings this week, so more space could potentially become available. We won't count on that just yet though!

Also, please note that we try to only send bunnies to Petco once, and only for 3-4 weeks if we can help it. In the past, the smaller bunnies have been fairly good candidates for Petco, but lately all of our smaller buns are Dunwoody bunnies. A few Dunwoody bunnies have stopped eating shortly after arriving at Petcos, so are not always great candidates.

Right now, we're running low on bunnies who are eligible for Petco, which is one of the reasons why we're bringing in these smaller, younger bunnies off of the wait list/from foster homes. Also, we're bringing them in because they are ADORABLE and very adoptable. The faster they get adopted, the sooner we can save more bunnies!

Here is the plan this week:

1. Chipper - Pen 1
2. Mario - Pen 2

These rabbits are at Frances Hinson's house. They are 4-5 months old Californians, very sweet, cute, and very bondable/adoptable. We will bring them in early this week and see if they bond with anyone or get adopted. If not, then they will go out to the Lithonia and Milton Petcos to replace Jethro and Keifer, respectively, sometime this weekend. This is so that we can have Chipper and Mario on hand for bondings/adoptions. Frances does not work so will probably be able to move these rabbits in very quickly.

Action items:
  • Shelley: I will reach out to Frances about getting the bunnies back in.
  • Stephanie/Rose: We should have clean, open pens ready for them, so heads up that they're coming in! I think Frances might need to fill out an intake form for them if we don't already have one, but I want to say we already have them....?
  • Natalie: do you know who the drivers/volunteers are for these Petcos? Otherwise I'll see who I can start reaching out to.

Please note: We have already sent Rafa to the Peachtree City Petco where Yvonne Baer, one of our foster homes and volunteers,  happens to work. She works 3 or 4 days a week and checks on him every day she's there. He's in good hands. However, we understand that our former homes can sometimes get upset when they hear that their rabbits are at Petco - or are going to Petco. So please try not to mention this. I'm not saying that we lie - of course not!

The truth is that Rafa is being cared for by Yvonne, who's one of our foster homes and volunteers, and is in GREAT hands, and that Chipper and Mario will be kept at the shelter (for now).

Chipper and Mario are already in the database. Their information should be in the Waiting List book.

3. & 4. Chessie and Easter - Pen 3
5. & 6. Two Holland Lops - names TBD - Pen 4

Beth Cochran, a vet who also happens to be a licensed animal shelter, lives up in Jasper, GA. She took in Chessie and Easter, two Dunwoody bunnies, on March 29th. From what I heard, while Beth was out at her local tractor supply store, she came across two Holland lops that were badly abused/hurt/neglected, and confiscated them right then and there. She has been caring for them ever since - I don't know specifically when this was. It might take Beth a few days to get the bunnies down here, I'm not sure how flexible her schedule is!

Chessie & Easter can replace Lola & Skeeter at PetsMart.

Action items:
  • Shelley: I will reach out to Beth about getting the bunnies back in.
  • Stephanie/Rose: We should have clean, open pens ready for them, so heads up that they're coming in! We have intake forms already for Chessie & Easter, Beth will need to fill one out for the holland lops.
  • All:  Terri Smith does PetsMart, right? I'm happy to reach out to her if someone can confirm that for me.

7. Intake from Ronda's list, and putting a bunny in the Duluth Petco - Pen 5/Duluth Petco

Ronda will manage this one. Currently there is no bunny at Duluth. Ronda, could Malibu or Lincoln go to the Duluth Petco? I don't know if they're too scared to go. Our only real option is Winter. Miriam, who is also a Dunwoody bunny, seems like she'd be too scared to go. Hopscotch has megacolon and shouldn't go, Cous Cous is still healing, and Rosalee is still healing and is TOO CUTE to go, she'll be ready next week and I just know someone will snatch her up.

Next action items:
  • Who is in contact with Paula Buckner about this little rabbit Nacho? If he's small and healthy, he might be our next contestant for Petco!
  • Shelley: I will swap out Rafa at the Peachtree City Petco for Brave, who has been in a foster home in Peachtree City. So this isn't swapping spots, it's adding a new bunny. This is happening July 27th! So almost 2 weeks from now.

I will put all of this on our calendar shortly!

Thanks everyone!

Shelley

Thanks Johna!

Yes, Edna, Susie and Tanner are next on the list to come back from Petco.

If Lincoln, Miriam, Malibu and Winter are appropriately replacements, they haven't been yet, however, I have concerns about all of those, so I'll let Rose/Ronda/Natalie/Stephanie make those calls. I think Pinto Bean is too large to go, and given his poor health earlier this year, I'm not sure we should send him. But again, you guys can decide!

@Natalie - let me know if you need help coordinating drivers, I don't know who the volunteers are at all the Petcos but if I did, I'd be more than happy to reach out.

I've attached the calendar for the next two weeks as an FYI - feel free to add events to it or let me know what events you'd like added and I'll do that. You'll see where I put some events across multiple days as I'm not sure of timing, so those will be at the very top of the calendar.

Questions? Just let me know!

Thanks!
Shelley

Edna is still at the acworth Petco, probably going on to a month now. She is a very calm bunny and they like her there but last I visited, i noticed her chewing on the carpet. I got a bunch of apple branches and asked they keep things for her to chew in her cage

I am thinking that she will need to get rotated shortly if possible. She is a sweet bun and would be a good one to being in for bondings!! She grooms the stuffed animal I gave her....seems to me she'd like a friend

Frances Hinson will come by TOMORROW, Tuesday, July 16th between 1pm and 3pm with Mario and Chipper. Frances did ask if Rafa (the third brother of this trio) was still at the shelter, and I let her know that he was being taken care of by Yvonne, one of our volunteers.

I asked her if she'd consider fostering in the future, she said that these three were "really hard to manage", but she'll probably miss them once a few weeks has gone by, and might consider it down the road.

Thanks!
