Today Mario and Chipper were brought to the center.
They were being fostered by Frances Hinson, who found them in her yard,
she had them both neutered by Dr. Colby.  They are a sweet, curious, bonded pair.

Ember was brought to the center today by Deb Pittman.  Deb said that her neighbor,
a magician, moved away and abandoned Ember.  Deb rescued Ember and brought her
to the vet, kept her for a year but just wasn't interested in keeping her forever.  Deb
also donated $200.00.

Johna, can you post their bios?  Let me know whose bios you need and I will give you
as much history as I can.

Ed, the right side hand railing leading upstairs is loose.  Also the right side hand railing
leading to boarding is getting more loose.  I know you said this was a difficult thing to fix.

I'm adding a few updates to Rose's.

Jackson (young californian with all the worms in his neck) went back to Dr. Colby today and another worm was removed, the dead black scabby tissue was debrided and a huge abcess was cut open on his side and a Tablespoon! of pus squeezed out of it.  Yuck!  I got to watch the whole thing.  This bunny is the best  but will have to be debrided one more time in another 7-10 days.  What a trooper!

After this experience I checked on Couscous who also had a worm in his testicle when we got him, and there is an abcess started that I squeezed some pus out of.  He will be going back to Dr. C asap next week.

Amelia is responding very well to a new antibiotic and the sneezing is stopping.  She can be spayed in the next week or two, maybe with Jackson's return visit.

Sondra is a holy terror!  but her foot is looking better.

Neco had his splint removed from his foot today and it is what it is - a little floppy but no infection.  He is to be moved upstairs and given lots of exercise time to see how he does with full activity and if all is well in another week he can be put up for adoption.

Ember - new bunny - is a palomino or red NZ - very nice rabbit in good health.

Mario and Chipper are bonded - probably should not separate them.  They are adorable and in good health and ready for adoption.  Slight correction in the find area - they were found on a hiking trail in the woods and the group caught them and Francis fostered them and paid for all their medical herself.

We put a diaper on Pancakes today and got it to stay on and he doesn't seem to mind it a bit!  Hopped all over the place, stretched out, jumped off and on his shelf, etc.  Stephanie and I watched a you-tube video on how to do it and gave it another shot.  Yesterday we failed miserably and got a good laugh at it sliding farther and farther down his backside as he hopped across the floor.  We will see if this helps keep him dry and smelling better!  I don't think he should be unadoptable - he will be special needs, especially as he ages, but no reason to not adopt him to a rabbit savy person.

I also want to report that Jillian is looking great!  She has a full coat of fur with only a small patch or two of rough skin, about half the size of a dime.  I am trying to reduce her meds from every other day to every third day, so we will see.  I have changed her pellett food to Sherwood Forest and I am thinking this has made a difference.  I've been treating her sebacious adenitis for over a year, and this is the best she's been.  If you saw her you would not know there was an issue.  And she's on myristol and feeling spunky these days.

I think we should try Pancaked on the Sherwood Forest and see if it helps his poops.  I can bring some along at my next trip over there.  Just got a new batch of it.

Pebbles needs a friend - she's grooming her bear and tries to make friends with the other foster bunnies.  I dont' find much sludge these days, and we need to find her a partner.  I can easily teach someone how to manage her sludge if they are willing - not costly or hard.  Please keep her in mind when you are looking for females to bond and ask if the person is willing to give her a try

OH - and Zack got a lawn mower today and was putting it together when I left.

I think that's enough for now - thanks to everyone for all their hard work!

I wanted to add an update on foster bunny Marshmallow. He has come such a long way with his fur growing back!  He had ear and fur mites, and both eyes were almost completely crusted shut.  He is now mite free and all his his fur has grown back on his head.  He has entropian and had surgery with Dr. Colby.  He still has swollen eyelid margins and conjunctivitis.  He has been under Dr. King's care and I've been giving him Ofloxin eye drops 3 times a day. We had a follow up today with Dr. King, and she said his eye looks so much better!  There is still some swelling and conjunctivitis, and I'm to continue the same protocol with the drops, and go back in 2 weeks.  She said he might always have an eye issue, but that shouldn't keep him from being adoptable. :)

Thanks,
Ellen

He's so lucky to have you and Carl caring for him !  I got more of loin called in today and will bring to shelter next visit

And if Carl can leave some of that enzyme for me next time you visit the shelter I would like to get instructions and give it a try.

More updates:

I took Tasha to Dr. Greg Nutt today to have her teeth trimmed. He did a couple of x-rays and said that he suspects she should have back teeth removed, but he would not want to do it himself. The roots are so tight to her jaw, he would be concerned about injuring the jaw to remove the teeth. He trimmed them and we will check again in 6 months (or before if she has trouble). She is still feeling the effects of today's ordeal so I'm keeping an eye on her. Poor Tasha -- she is having a rough time for a sweet little girl. I'm hoping that she will ultimately make it through all of her difficulties, but I doubt that she will get out of sanctuary. She's actually been doing pretty well here, but her sneezing prompted the vet visit. I'm hoping the trim will help her with that, but tonight she is a bit uncomfortable. I've given her metacam to ease her discomfort. I may start on her Zithromax since the baytril/bicilllin hasn't done the job. I'll speak with Ronda about that.

Streudel is doing well at this time. He has another appointment with Dr. King next week. When she saw him last week, she diagnosed simple conjunctivitis, so he needs time to make sure he is properly recovered. He is getting eye drops twice a day and a daily baytril tablet (for a little while longer). I'll keep you informed of his status. Right now, he's sanctuary while we work on his issue.

I'm supposed to take Pancakes next week (after I deliver Chablis and Jeremiah to Cindy Waldrop -- which is supposed to happen on Monday), but I'm not sure if that's still necessary if he's getting along well with his diaper. Let me know what you think about that. I really am not fond of doing fosters, so if he's adoptable, perhaps he should stay at the center.

Casey (Netherland dwarf) is doing well and I'm very happy with his progress. He does over-cecal on some days (which can mean bath time) and I'm trying to get his diet settled. He's learning to eat a few more veggies and has gained back most of the weight he lost during his first weeks here. I suppose he could be available for adoption soon, but he is 10 years old and should have someone who can spend some time with him. He's a little love and might be a good bonding candidate for a sweet and gentle little girl. He only  weighs 3 pounds and has an amputated back leg, so a partner would need to be easy on him. He would definitely NOT be a candidate for Petco.

Okay. I think that's it for now,
Caroline

Thank you Ronda!  I'm just so thankful you let us pull him from Dekalb and foster him several months ago!   I will definitely drop off Carl's enzymes for you!  I'll let you know next time I go to the Center.   :)
