The second visionary editor at Bass Player has allowed me to use his name in the book.

Thank you, Karl, for all you did for me.  Thanks, too, for forever associating me with airliners.  If there's a heaven, for me I hope it's on a National Airlines Boeing 747-100 cruising in a late afternoon of about 1971, the cabin suffused in soft orange light that blends perfectly with the muted reds and yellows of the decor, as we wait for the stewardesses (not flight attendants in those days) to bring us club sandwiches cut into four triangles, each speared with a toothpick that has little red or green or purple celluloid tassels on the ends, and served with a pile of french fries, a dill pickle wedge, and a Coke.  Full sugar.
