I finished the outline, and now it's just a matter of plugging the self-contained stories into the chapters. I'll wade through my laughably naive 200,000-word first attempt at a novel and see what memories that'll jog. I'm also looking into folders from my filing cabinets that I haven't peeked at in over a decade.
Weird how so much of my life seems to have led up to this point. The dovetailing of people and interests is almost unbelievable. Maybe it's a sign. In the publishing industry, they say that your most important book is your second one.
This will be my fifth book, but I'll count it as my first, since it isn't geared toward a specialized audience. I have a novel ready to go, a "black comedy about love and suicide in wartime America."
Maybe I can make two splashes in a row. You never know.
