For those of you who are not familiar with this bike race, it is a
great training race to get bike racers ready for the upcoming season.
Since Tim and I usually ride together on Sundays, I've decided to go
with him to the race and "race" myself. Not really race like he does,
but I need to ride my bike anyway so why not do it at the same time.
I know that many of our Cycling team will be racing, so if you would
like to join us let me know. All the information can be found on

Deanna - I might do this with you depending on the weather. I need to get
on my bike.

Will you tell Tim that I will not be at class tomorrow because of my kids
off school? Also Stu and I took overall first and second at the Indoor Tri
at the Y today. He beat me by 12 seconds. See you at the store with
something to return.

Awesome, It would be nice to have some other Ghisallo women to race
with.

Kris,
I'll let Tim know. Great job on the indoor Tri! I'm so proud of you
guys!

So, I did my very first road race ever and it was really cold. Since
the weather looked really bad I had pretty much decided that I wasn't
going to until until last night around 5pm. I couldn't make up my
mind so Tim said just do it you need to ride anyway . So, after my
eight mile run and a full day of house cleaning with absolutely no
preparation for the race I was going to race. Tim was so kind enough
to give me advice on the way to Columbia. By the time we got there it
had warmed up to 40 degrees. I registared for the women's cat 4 race.
I was the 31st one to sign up. It was the largest group of women I
have ever seen at a bike race. We were the last ones to start with
the juniors. I started off pretty strong not really knowing what to
expect, I was out there by myself wondering were the group was. Well
by 3 miles a group caught me. I hung with them for awhile and lost
them on a hill. I just couldn't stand to climb with them (legs were a
little sore from the run). Luckily a group of junior boys wer not far
behind so I waited to jump on there train. They were working pretty
well together, but unfortunately let me do alot of the work. I think I
ended up doing most the work because when it was their turn to pull
they went 18 or 19mph insted of the 24mph I was pulling. We worked
together enough to pull back two of the girls that were with the lead
group. The lead group was still in sight. We passed several people
with flat tires (the roads were pretty nasty). Then the girls and I
pulled away from the junior boys and caught two of the Cat 5 Men. Tim
picked up Jeff Chattin (our Trek rep who flatted in the masters race)
and the two of them cheered me on. They did get frustrated at the
guys though because they were letting me and the other girls do all
the work. We turned on the outer road and I was still going strong I
tried reaching for my Gu knowing if I didn't get some energy I would
be in trouble, but the guy in front of me slowed down; I got
frustrated and went around... 5 miles to go and I hit a brick wall.. I
couldn't feel my toes for awhile and now I could really feel my legs.
The temp was dropping and I was out of energy; not wanting to give up
a slowed down and chewed my frozen Gu. I made it with 3 miles to go
and finally found some energy somewhere. I turned on to the last
strech and tried to catch the people I had been pulling the entire
time. I came really close but just didn't have it. I finished 16th
out of 35 with no flats and no injury. Of coarse I wasn't happy with
that result, but my husband calmly reminded me that I didn't even
train for this race I just did it to do it. All in all I have to say
it is something I would love to do again.. I just need all my friends
to join me so we can work together. Road races with Cat 4 Women are
not dangerous at all. I can't say that about the Cat 4 men though.
Our guys were doing great until the sprint finish when racers right in
front of them decided to crash sending a few to the hospital. Hope you
guys heal up fast. You keep working together like you were out there
and can stay up right you are going to have a pretty impressive
season.

I am so proud of you completing the race! Way to push through it. I wish I
had that sort of strength! See you at the Trivia Night.

DK you are my hero, I feel bad that I did not do it with you, but to tell you the truth I would not be of help right now. If Tim thinks he can get me to that level I will try my best to keep you company in the future.  Anyway, BRAVO, I am very jealous.

Wow!  What a great accomplishment, Deanna!  You are so strong - and may I say brave too!  Looking forward to our club rides when the weather warms up.

Thanks for all the kind words, you girls are the best! Would anyone
be interested in doing some road racing with me this spring/summer?
If you are, I would be willling to volunteer my husband to train us to
race together. It really is a lot of fun and I know that there are
some of you out there that are plenty strong and fast enough to race.
If I can do it so can you!

I would love to say yes but right now I am scared to death to ride outside
in cold weather. After a get over the initial shock I'll let you know.
