Hey guys I will be buying my first digital video camera this weekend and I could really use some tips about equipment. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on which might be one of the better models. I like to take pictures indoors and out doors. Also, I love taking pictures of sunsets and sunrises. I photograph lots of stuff in the woods where there is low light, and I have kids so action is on the table too. I am definately an ameture, who can't spell either, and can't afford to play the oh no I bought the wrong one game. Anything you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tracy

I haven't looked at new gear for awhile, but I'd be inclined to say stay with Canon's brand. Every Canon camera I've seen has been really nice. All the camera's I've used are good for either video OR digital stills. Some digital still cameras have a reasonable movie mode, but they're going to be shakier than a DV camera.

C|Net always has some reasonable reviews.

If you want to try out a camera for a weekend, I can get my hands on a Canon from the college. That might give you more of an idea of what you're looking for. Now is a good time, too, since it's spring break. Let me know.

Tracy,
If you are interested you can use my camera for a while and do some filming at the JP Patches show as I will be a little late because I have birthing classes with my wife on Saturday.

About buying a camera- How much are you looking to spend? Do you want to store your footage on tapes or can you store it on a computer? Are you interested in HD quality or just regular ol' video?

Bart
