Hi Eddie,
Unfortunately at the time of this writing, developers can't register as Google Checkout merchants and sell paid
apps on the google play store if they're in Africa; neither can they integrate in-app billing within apps/games. It's one of those challenges you face as a developer in Africa, nonetheless
there are ways to get around these impediments. I did the following:
* I found someone trustworthy in a listed country to setup the account. Users buy app > $$$ goes to his account > he remits it
- So far, not good
* Used alternative app stores to reach a wider market- SlideMe, amazon app store, samsung app store, yandex,
soc.io, handster, appia, nexva, mobango, camangi, phoload, tucows, androidpit,
appslib.
- With the above stores, you don't need any google merchant
wahala. You give 'em your bank account details and they remit your earnings via wire transfers. Amazon pay cheques.. Isn't that sweet
* Make the app free and stuff it with non-instrusive ads. Unlike the iOS and Windows Phone ecosystem, android users normally expect free apps. Most of users don't have cards or carrier services to buy 'em apps..
- Do you know rovio's angry birds(android version) makes atleast $1million a month using the above technique. Well, convincing your client to take that route might be hard.
Hope you find a way and by the way, if you're able to sell on the play store, remember to use google play licensing services or other alternatives to secure your app else you'll be seeing thousands of downloads but zero purchases in the stats. Haah! Say hello to the pirates of the carriandroid and their atrocious backdoors :(
Regards,
Nana
