Recently, we are excited to launch the Africa Deep Tech Challenge (ADTC) 2026— an engineering-first competition challenging African builders, founders, researchers, and innovators to develop practical, on-device AI applications that run entirely on commodity laptops, with no cloud dependency.

This Year's Theme: The Laptop LLM

Across Africa, laptops are the most widely available computing platform in homes, schools, businesses, healthcare facilities, and communities. Yet most modern AI solutions are designed for infrastructure that remains inaccessible to many.

ADTC 2026 is designed to change that. This challenge asks a different question: what becomes possible when we design language models for African realities from the start?
