Hello Everyone,
I hope your summer is going well. Dr Agbényiga and Aunty Pat, the
Founder and Executive director of BASICS International, have approved
the list of activities and projects that you will be doing this summer
in Ghana. I have attached a copy the projects for you all to look
through .These projects were created based on your bios that you sent
to me. So please take a look at your bios and respond to the
following.
1. For each project, I need 2 people to sign-up as the point person
for each project. This does not mean that only two people will be
responsible for the entire project rather these are the supervisors
and the people who will coordinate the activities related to a
specific project. EVERYONE MUST SIGN UP as a POINT PERSON for a
project (no exceptions).
2. You will all be assisting each other on the other activities so if
there are a few that you would like to put your name down for please
feel free to do so. Everyone will be engaged in some aspect of
tutoring but the Point Person is responsible for the scheduling, work
assignment etc.
3. As you are thinking of projects that you will be working on, please
start considering materials (curriculums, videos, workbooks, websites,
etc) that you would like to bring with you to Ghana. For example, if
you doing the Self-Esteem program and you have materials on therapy or
guidebooks please list this information down. Even if you are not the
affiliated with the project or just supporting, please list materials
that might be helpful to BASICS.
4. Please work together and figure out who will sign up for the
different projects and fill out the sign in sheet attached. Send this
information to me (sall...@gmail.com) BEFORE TUESDAY JUNE 6th.
Reminder, your study abroad experience is dependent on your
willingness to try new things and learning from the community. This is
a chance to learn new skills, improve old ones, and transfer your
knowledge to others. The listed activities are not your only options,
if at your placement a great opportunity comes up, I recommend you try
it. Remember this is a learning opportunity as well as a fun/creative
avenue for all of you. Below are websites for BASICS that you might
find interesting. As always, if you have any questions please feel
free to contact me. This information will be posted on ANGEL as
well. If you don’t have access to the ANGEL page please contact me
ASAP.

Greetings:
As you sign up as a lead person, please list supplies that you believe would be helpful to do the work you believe you will do. I will purchase the items (as much as I can) and bring them to Ghana as some of the things we will need to successfully do our work is not always readily available. For example, as a part of the tutoring piece, I already know that there is a need for literacy and math content to provide ongoing work. Keep in mind, we want to provide sustainable programs that will be around after our departure. I hope the outline of projects that we will work on has increased your excitement. I am looking forward to welcoming you all to Ghana!

Regards,
Dr. Agbenyiga

 Hey!
I hope you are all enjoying your summer! I can't believe how fast the date we leave for Ghana is approaching! I wanted to respond to the proposed projects email because I am interested so far in 2 of them and have some great ideas I would like to share. I am interested in being a Team Leader for the Performance Arts and Stepping. I am actually competing in stepshows and have a lot of experience and information I can share with the group and the children. I am also interested in assisting with the Self-Esteem Program. I used to be a mentor/coach for this program called Girls on the Run and we focused on activities that promoted self-esteem which were creative and fun. So whoever is interested in working together for these projects let me know!

Wow, Valerie you expertise in these two areas would be much
appreciated. As danced challenged, I might sign up for step as a
student. Thanks for expressing interest in these activities.
Everyone keep sharing.

Dear Valarie:

Thanks for the quick response.  I think you could serve as a point person on both.  Let’s see if others come forward to co-lead with you.  Please go ahead and start listing things that might be needed for the two areas you have identified.

Hello!

I am having trouble with signing up in the Google Doc/Excel sheet
spreadsheet, but was wondering if it would be possible to put my name
down for the Administration Work and Self Esteem Projects. I would be
willing to co lead for both of those projects, I just didn't know if
you would prefer us only signing up to lead one of the projects or
not. Just let me know either way.

Thank you for your time. Looking forward to the trip... cannot believe
how quickly it's coming!

Hi Sallay and Dr. Agbényiga!

I would like to put my name down for the Elementary Education Development
and the Visual Arts Program. I would be willing to take leadership
positions for both but if I had to choose just one to be the point person
for it would be the Visual Arts Program as I am looking to gain more
experience about early childhood education.
For my participation in the Visual Arts Program, I have a lot of ideas but
not exactly the skills to execute in a beautifully artistic manner. If
another student who was more artistic would like to team up with me, then I
would be happy to be a co-leader of this program. I have experience working
with at risk children in a shelter and doing art therapy with them and so I
would also love to (on a few occasions) combine some art with the Self
Esteem Program. Of course once we know who all of the co-leaders are we can
discuss this idea further.

I'm already counting down the days until our adventure begins! Can't wait
to see everyone in less than a month!

Hi Sallay and Dr. Agbényiga,
I would be interested in helping out with the Elementary Education Development and Self-Esteem Projects and would be willing to co-lead either of those. I would also be interested in the visual arts program. Looking forward to seeing you al in Ghana!

Hi Valarie! I will be participating in the self-esteem project while
we are in Ghana. I wanted to know what type of creative activities
your organization came up with. Thanks
