Still Searching was met with generally favourable reviews from music critics. AbsolutePunk staff member Drew Beringer commented on the album's lyrics and musicianship, and concluding by saying it was "quite the improvement, and while it leaves some to be desired, it shows that Senses Fail are on the right path to fully discovering themselves".[20] Kaj Roth of Melodic shared a similar sentiment, saying that they have "matured both lyrically and with song arrangements. The band feels more melodic but still with the same tight performance".[62] The staff at Ultimate Guitar said the lyrics were a "mix of the impressive and mediocre" as some of the track themes "seem contrived and predictable, but then the next song could throw a curveball with some unique thoughts".[24] Sputnikmusic staff member Atari said that "[n]ot only are the lyrics painfully honest, but the music is heavier as well".[23]
When Buddy announced in November of 2014 that the band would begin recording their next album, I honestly experience mixed feelings. Excitement for one, because I still loved the band to death and was always happy to hear new music, but also apprehension. Buddy had recently come out regarding his unique sexuality and struggles with addiction, and though I was extremely happy to see this man reach a point in his life where he felt at peace with his previous endeavors, I questioned his commitment to producing music. I've followed Buddy on twitter for quite a while now, and noticed that he has been pervasively engaged in associations and activities outside of Senses Fail (PETA and LGBTQ type stuff), and I started to become worried that perhaps he wasn't as committed to the band as he used to.
hola...i used to really be into these guys back a couple years back....i think i've moved on lol... but still searching, i think, is their best album. the addition of Heath from Midtown brought them to a totally new level.
yeah...ive only listened to a few songs and I dont dig the new album at all. Let it enfold you was soo good. I really think they went down hill.
The guitar tone does not really fit the band either. Like someone said its really boomy and you cant hear any of the notes in vchords. It just sounds like a compressed mass of sound. For metal with a lot single string stuff this sound would work, but not them. IMO
Sucks too, i was really looking foward to this album. AP gave it a 5 too which made me even more pumped about it.
The new Saosin though is pretty killer, still not as good as the stuff with anthony green but then again not many singers are him.
EDIT. Oh yeah, buddy is the most tone deaf singer i have ever heard live. He cannot hit notes to save his soul. Hes not even out by just a little were talking whole steps sometimes. They are one band I prefer not to see live as they ruin the CD for me.
Quite a question. Songs do feel like children. When I wrote Fortune for this album, I felt like that was one of the better songs I've ever written, though I'm not sure we actually quite captured it on the recording. I judge it by what songs still make me cry when I play them, What He Wrote and Goodbye England are still the most affecting on me personally. Goodbye England is so close to my heart, and What He Wrote, I don't know why. Why one is more affecting that the other. Weird!
