Great question! We'll be going over this more in depth during our final Race Prep clinic on Sunday, September 8th - a note to the 8th, the first 30 minutes will be dedicated to the mental aspect of Ironman race week and the race, then we'll take the next ~1:15 to discuss race week and the race itself. Plan to extend the evening a little longer than 1.5 hours. And, let's bring some chow! I don't want anyone fading out during this information packed evening, so lets make it fun and festive and focus on the topic at hand.

But since the question was brought to me, what do we put in our Special Needs bags, I decided to poll a number of Trifiniti/GGTC athletes from various abilities and finish times about how they use their special needs bags and what they put in them. They were also asked, what did you put in the bag that you did not think you'd needed or were glad you packed.

Be well,

I want to know who puts shammy butter on their turkey sandwich...

"Turkey sandwich with one leaf of lettus and little mayo & shammy butter; two additional bottles of electrolytes/CHO drink because I don't like what Ironman offers and wanted my own - a mini Redbull shot"

Yum, shammy butter...

I emailed Ironman to find out about the special needs bags and was told that they will not be returned after the race.

Also in case you are wondering the following items are prohibited under WADA rules: http://list.wada-ama.org/prohibited-in-competition/prohibited-substances/

I am really disappointed that I can't spark a joint on my ride.
