More specifically, I am going to use the dark gradient background
theme in Apple's Keynote presentation software. I would expect that in
general white lines and text will look good as well as semi-
transparent areas. I am aware of ggplotpp package that defines some
themes and would start with these for defining my own.

I just added theme_bb() on r-forge, please feel free to subscribe and
modify it (or add others).
I remember seeing some colour palettes in R designed to blend well
with Beamer (latex presentations) themes, that could also be a nice
thing to share (themes + scales). I can't remember where that was
though (some r-related blog i think).
Cheers,
baptiste

I have not tried to do such a theme but would be interested by it if
you do it. What would be really cool is if you could also set the
default color categories (those of scale_??_hue basically) to match
those of keynote, but I am not sure this is currently possible via
ggplot theming.

I think that's my blog ;) There's not much about R though...yet!

The R code kept up to date (new fonctions) is on github
http://github.com/jiho/r-utils/tree/master
At some point, the ggplot and color related stuff could be moved to r-
forge where they would be more useful. But I first intend to clean
them and bit and I must find the time to transfer them.
I detected the colors by picking them on screenshots using the color
picker included in OS X. While this should be quite alright since
everything is in a color managed workflow, it can still be a bit off
compared to the real beamer colors. I remember looking for where they
were set in in source and not finding it. If someone could give me a
pointer, I think it would be worth re-writing the file with the
official rgb values.
