Hi all,

Thanks to superb help on less than intuitive R handling of time-date formatting from Hadley,
the plots are now working as needed with time correctly displayed on the  YAxis.
Using the label also corrected the legend on the Yaxis to match.

I am using scatter plots and jitter to display the points for a given date.
Is there a way to use something similar to the dodge function (restricted only to bar plots?) with geom_point?
As can be seen below using jitter, the points for the various species are still mixed and this does not show the reader how the activity compares between species.  The example in the book using dodge for overplotting issues would be excellent if there is a way to space each color in a scatter plot.

I now need to fine tune the plots for publication be able to have each variable (species) to be adjacent to the other w/o overlap as dodge will do.  Also figure out how to use different point types for each species as in B&W they will need to be different. Should be able to tweak the dates so they are more legible and working on that now.

Cheers from the jungles of Belize,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,

I'd think about facetting by date and location (e.g. +
facet_grid(location ~ date)) and then putting species on the x axis.
