wind vectors in ggmap

Hi,

Is it possible to plot wind vectors (wind speed and wind direction) in ggmap?

I have a series of met stations and want to display wind vectors at the lat/long station locations.

I think the original advice was OK, absent a reproducible example. One
can use ggplot2 code in conjunction with ggmap, as is indicated by the
paper by David Kahle and Hadley Wickham in the R Journal:
