Hi everyone -
I'm pleased to announce the availability of my new book, R Graphics Cookbook, published by O'Reilly Media. Some members of this mailing list apparently already have their hands on it! The book has many recipes for creating statistical graphics. This seed material for the book was taken from the website I created, Cookbook for R (
http://wiki.stdout.org/rcookbook/), but the book goes into more depth and covers a broader range of techniques. Most of the content revolves around ggplot2, although it makes use of other tools when they are more appropriate.
You can preview the book here:
The R Graphics Cookbook is available in both print and electronic format. One advantage of the print edition is that it lends itself to browsing, so you can easily find ideas for data visualization. If you want the electronic version, I suggest purchasing directly from O'Reilly, because they will supply you DRM-free files in several different formats: PDF, ePub (works with Nook), and Mobi (works with Kindle).
If you purchase directly from O'Reilly, you can use the discount code AUTHD to get 40% off print and 50% off electronic books, and there's free shipping for orders over $29.95:
I've done a little investigating to figure out how to get the best deal if you want to get both the print and electronic version from O'Reilly. The AUTHD code only works for print and ebooks, but not their print+ebook combos. If you buy a print book alone, you can pay $5 to upgrade and get the ebook version for $5. My understanding is that these are the options, for those of you in the United States (I don't know if the discounts work in other countries):
- Buy the print & ebook combo for $43.99 (AUTHD won't work with this)
- Buy the print and ebook as separate items in your cart, plus use AUTHD, for a final price of $39.98
- Buy the print book with AUTHD for $23.99. After you order, you can get the ebook upgrade for $5, for a total of $28.99. (This is below the $29.95 threshold for free shipping, so you'll have to pay for shipping unless add more to your order.)
And, of course, you could order the book from Amazon:
Happy graphing!
