Adding notes to a plot

Hi,

It's very common to have notes (maybe stating sample size or data
criteria) at the bottom of a graph, below the x-axis label, outside the
plot margins (I usually place them on the bottom left corner). I use
mtext in the traditional R plots, but how can I add notes in ggplot2?
