custom geom guidelines?

Is there a manual or guide somewhere where I can learn on how to construct custom geoms?

I suspect you may have already seen this, but AFAIK this is as close
to an 'official' document on the subject:

The ggthemes package has a couple of geoms, so perhaps a gander at the
source code might be useful.
