scale_x_datetime showing two ticks for the same day even when major="1 day"

I am trying to create a line graph for five days at a time. I have a
continuous y variable, and a date time x variable.

It works well for all dates except when I hit November 07, 2010. It
puts two tick marks for November 07, even though I have major = "1
day"

Any ideas what I've done wrong?

Here is a snippet of my code:

I have to admit, I'm at a bit of a loss here. Seems like it is probably something to do with your R configuration and I don't have a windows machine to try the code on. Can you try plotting the data using something other than ggplot2?  If the error persists I would google the hell out of posix time issues and as a last resort R-help (GOD HELP US ALL!).

I have no idea of what can be going on, but I obtained the expected graph with three different Windows distributions (and two versions of  ggplot2) [Murphy’s law; all of them different from yours … so I’m not sure if it is an issue related to your current installation]

Hoi Sarah,

I was able to reproduce the same bug you have by setting my timezone

to 'EST'.

Was able to fix the problem by setting the tz parameter  for scale_x_datetime() to this same timezone,  ie:

scale_x_datetime(limits = c(as.POSIXct("2010-11-06"),

                as.POSIXct("2010-11-10")), minor="1 day", tz=Sys.timezone())

Maybe this works for you too.

Hi,

I was able to reproduce this bug under Linux by running: 

   TZ='America/New_York'; export TZ

before running R.

Under Linux the fix:

   scale_x_datetime(limits = c(as.POSIXct("2010-11-06"),

                as.POSIXct("2010-11-10")), minor="1 day", tz=Sys.timezone())

does not work,  but

  scale_x_datetime(limits = c(as.POSIXct("2010-11-06"),

                as.POSIXct("2010-11-10")), minor="1 day", tz='EST')

does.

This bug might be triggered by the fact that in the EST timezone day light savings

ended on 07 Nov in 2010.  

Which is right in the given data series,  and it also happens to be the day that is repeated.

Generally, if you don't care about the timezone, it's best to use UTC
because that doesn't have day light savings.
