I am also struggling with this on El Capitan.

When I launch XQuartz then GGobi, I get the following message:

26:34: execution error: Can’t get application "X11". (-1728)

dyld: Library not loaded: /Library/Frameworks/GTK+.framework/Resources/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.0.dylib

  Referenced from: /usr/local/ggobi/bin/ggobi

  Reason: no suitable image found.  Did find:

/Library/Frameworks/GTK+.framework/Resources/lib/libgtk-x11-2.0.0.dylib: mach-o, but wrong architecture

This is after installing GTK from: https://r.research.att.com/

Thoughts?

Perhaps this is an unhelpful question, but wouldn't using Qt be easier to maintain across multi platforms?

Sounds like Simon's GTK+ binary is out of date. Best bet right now is to build your own. No one is going to be porting GGobi to Qt any time soon, but there are alternatives, like cranvas.
